Buy the Tikka compact. It's for "you". You can shorten the stock when he's going to use it. It's really probably the best compromise. The next one in my mind is the Ruger American Gen 2, for the same reason with the stock spacers. Spending a bunch of money on a youth only gun is kind of pointless, because you really don't know what they're going to stick with when they get older. My kids went with me quite a bit when they were younger, but now that they're all in their twenties, even though I shoot more than ever and hunt as well, between their work, their school, and their other extracurricular activities none of them are much interested in putting in the time and effort.
