Bullet weight be damned?

Kind of. I’d much rather have a 6.5 129gr ABLR impacting an elk at 1,500 fps than a .30-cal 180gr TSX impacting the same elk at 1,600 fps.

A .257 Weatherby. This quarter bore will handle everything you’ve listed and recoil is very manageable. It’s quickly becoming my favorite rifle.

for those uses I've been very happy with my 280 AI.

+1 for this - very happy with my kimber MA 280ai on a 6x6 bull elk last fall.
