New rifle build - Need Help!

8emutadu.jpg

In 300wsm, with scope (luppy vx2 2-7x33) it comes in at 8lbs -4oz unloaded. Not the lightest gun one could carry or build, but I'm tired of having some plastic fantastic gun in my photos. I'm a fan of function and form and in my eyes a hunting bolt rifle should look the part. I just look at all the old photos of our forefathers hunts and ask myself how I would feel if I saw a plastic gun in those photos. There is (for me) a connection with wood and steel. It's from the earth so it looks in place when sitting next to a caribou in the mountains. Plastic.....nope. Reminds me of plastic bags stuck in a barbwire fence (ok a slight exaggeration but you get where I'm going here). Yeah I know the sheep guys will say that every ounce counts and there is some truth there but 3/4 of a pound is worth it for me. I'll be carrying this one while Dall hunting with my wife in Tok this summer and hopefully she'll get a shot on a ram with her tikka (I know, I know but she only weighs 105 lbs). Rest assured any photos will be taken with the Winnie (we'll take a few with the tikka so it doesn't feel unappreciated). If a bou happens to find its way to my crosshairs or my wife drops her rig we'll be all set.

Hear ya. big fan of the mod70 too. have featherweight in 30-06 and compact featherweight in 243. they look so fine hanging on the wall. when hanging in a tree stand tho my my mod 70 classic ss composite 308 is on my lap. keep the 243 mag charged and is my quick grab gun for critters out the back door, armadillo /hog. good luck on your hunt with the wife, will look for updates. BTW what is the bullet of choice in the 300wsm??
