Going on a gun hunt in a unit where glassing is key to locating elk.
Glassing setup
Steiner hx 15X56
Sirui va5 ballhead with CF tripod

RF choices
Fury 5000 AB
Bushnell Nitro 1 mile ARC

I usually pack light as possible but 2 pair of binos seems to make sense as the Fury gives elevation solution where LRF I am going to an app or a card. In the old days it was always a card taped to stock but I was not comfortable taking shots at ranges I do now. I have both shooter and 4d0f on phone. It sounds like the fury makes sense from a work flow solution but in real life I always need a minute to stow binos on chest. Second thing I have more problems locating the game to range it in the LRF. So I am heavily leaning to carrying 2 pair of binos.

Thanks for your reply and I agree when elk or up and moving 10X42 is enough but I find myself reaching for more during the day.

If you are hunting relatively open country or canyon country you may want to consider a bino plus spotter. There are times I can spot more game from long range with a spotter than binos.

Take both...obvious elk are big and easy but thats only gona happen so much pending the area/hunt...you wana find all the elk...not just the obvious ones

Then why ask the question?
was debating on leaving the furys and carrying the LRF. Now your reply has gotten me thinking about just taking the fury. Unit is a lot of sage with some pockets of j&P fewer small pockets of aspen and pine. I tend to pack everything to start and remove items over a week are two in hopes of keeping kit at a reasonable size.

That is the way I am leaning. Sure the elk will have shifted since there will have been a rifle season prior to the start.

I am going that route this year, carry 8x in chest for on the move and any timber I get into. Will pack the 15’s for longer glassing periods.
