Seems like the PRS is coming out with their own nrl hunter style match. Could be awesome if they actually allow rounds like the 6gt and 6 dasher or even a 223. Anyone else looking into competing in this?

cartridge and power factor along with rifle weight are on a sliding scale. However the sweet spot is 6.5cm at 13lbs
I like the fact that its not a requirement, im not going to win so the handicaps dont really hurt me. But being able to take what I actually hunt with ( smaller 6mms) really makes this attractive

Nice. There aren't any NRL Hunter matches near me so hopefully we'll have this in my area at some point. I'm already shooting Sportsman class so it sounds like I won't have to change much.

The Arbuckle event was a great turnout. Many thanks to PRS, Match Directors and all sponsors.

Competition isn't for everyone and the event is not necessarily just for competing but keeping the sport alive and camaraderie as well.

Looking forward to see the series schedule for next season.

I don’t think there has been an NRL event in Arizona. If PRS had a similar event I’m sure there’d be great turn-out. I know I’d be intrigued. From everything I’ve read it’s an awesome way to prepare for hunts.

Yep it was awesome that Was my first time doing anything like that. I Made a ton of rookie mistakes but hopefully it picks up and there are more in the area.

Depending on the weight of the rifle you hunt with it looks like shooting a smaller 6mm handicap will be offset by the rifle weight handicap making it a bit of a wash as far as points go.

Getting closer to what I would like to see. I’m curious if anyone will ever come out with a Mtn hunter series. 10 lb base rifle, one hunting weight tripod, one hunting weight bipod, 6mm variation for power factor, Points gained for faster times etc seems like it would be really popular amongst all of the people I know, but I’m probably in the minority.

That would be slick even if it was a side class in this

Personally I dont care about prizes or placing. I would like have several matches near me that are reasonably priced and I can shoot whatever I want just for experience and practice.

There's some comps but not many in the idaho boise area.
Boise has quite a decent selection. You can pop over into WA and Oregon. You aren’t too far from the central Utah ranges. There’s the shoots down in Jerome area. Let alone the mix match of everything Boise does offer. You have much more that many people would love to have easy access to ha

I guess that depends how you define area and what matches you’re looking for, but there is an NRL one day hunter match in Jerome or mountain home every month and bend does them pretty frequently too. There was an NRL Hunter match last weekend in La Grande and there was one in February in mountain home. PRS in bliss at the beginning of April and one at Parma in May. Parma also does like “varmint” matches a few times a year that are more chill

Check out the p.r.o rimfire series or the nrl 22 series, the rimfire crowd is super laid back and wayyy cheaper thats how i got my start and im hooked

I shot and RO'd the Arbuckle match this past weekend. It was a fun match and the ability to use your hunting rifle was on display a bit, but most guys were using their NRL 25/6.5 CM.

One rule change they tried that I think takes away from the "hunter" aspect is that items did not need to be stowed. Rifles could also be carried with bipod deployed and mag in to start stages. I shot the entire match without a backpack, carrying rifle in one hand, a sand game changer and tripod in the other. Most stages I was on glass in 10-15 seconds and was far less stressed for time.

One interesting change was vital sized targets for more points in front of the full sized animal targets on some stages. I RO'd a stage with vital targets and it really puts in perspective how difficult it is to hit animal vitals on first round impacts. Not too many shooters made first round hits to vitals and most that did were the seasoned shooters you see frequent the NRLhunter events.

It honestly ican be a bit of a mess to find all of them still. Facebook pages are the best bet still probably, and checking Impact Scoring and NRL hunter's website. NRL having all their stuff on their own site is kinda nice, but also made it so you have to check another place, right after we finally only had to look on Impact
