6 Dasher Barrel Life - for hunting

I can find all sorts of information on 6 dasher barrel life - but it’s all in the context of match shooting. It pretty much seems every barrel is being pulled before the gun reaches 1moa group size in these accounts. And it’s usually seeing 1500-2000 rounds before being pulled or rechambered.

I am finishing up a Howa Mini 6Dasher 16” barrel suppressed for hunting.

I’d sure like to know how long those dasher barrels would last before opening up to 2moa.

Anyone have any experience shooting a Dasher barrel past 2000 rounds?

I guess most people shoot them for competition and anything past that is wasting time and money in this context. But it’s Rokslide - that’s SOP here!

What are you hunting? If you are shooting prairie dogs, the barrel life will be very different from hunting deer/pronghorn/etc.

If you are not regularly shooting strings that heat up your barrel like F class or PRS, I would be shocked if it didn't last over 2000 rounds. I have never owned a dasher (though I am considering a build similar to yours), but that amount of powder to bore ratio is similar to a 223 Rem, so I would expect similar barrel life.

This application is where the new unknown OG can would shine brightest IMO. Can get 2-3 extra inches of barrel length to help a dasher with the velocity deficit compared to a creed or GT and end up with same OAL length as a ultra 7/scythe/nomad and you dont need a ton of volume to suppress 32 gr of varget.

I havnt tried the waters or factory mag. It’s in a hnt 26 using aics. I’d have a hard time believing it wouldn’t feed from factory medium mags. But so far I’m not regretting the hnt 26 choice.
Which mags specifically are you using?

For hunting I have 5 round AI with primal rights spacer.

I have a 10 round mdt br/dasher mag which is really a 9 round. 12 round mdt br dasher mag and 10 round AI primal rights kit.
Good to know. I sort of forgot they make a spacer kit for AI's. In my comp gun I have the AW with spacer and MDT's. Good to know for a 5 round option!

Yea Iv already been thinking about that. I can’t justify buying the one that only fits a sub .750 barrel though.

The ultra 7 6.5 suppresses it well enough that I havnt even considered trying a Magnus on there.

Balance is also way better now with a 6 ounce bipod.

Iv never shot groups as small as I have with these two dasher barrels. Reloading has also been stupid easy.

2000 fps at 500 yards, 6mph rifle, just enough of what I need with the least possible recoil.

Why? if you've got enough cans for your heavier barrels already..

It doesn't seem like a can I'd want to put a ton of rounds through anyway. Seems like it'd be more of a PITA to get off if it's carbon locked on and a PITA to clean so lower volume hunting rifles seems like a nice spot to live.

I wish AW was an option with the tikka. For how finicky people said it would be it sure seems to be the opposite. I had more issues with the creedmoors in aics mags.

I have enough barrels that are just enough over .750 that it would be a limiter.

It does seem like it would be perfect for a slightly longer barrel that I think is needed to run the dasher with decent velocity at sane pressure.

The gt holds 44 VS 41 of dasher. Has a much longer neck. I've had 3 gt comp barrels go 2500, which is where guys pull dashers. I love BR variants, however for a hunting setup, I feel the gt only has benefits VS a dasher. Unless a guy already has brass/dies for dasher. I will say the dasher is a small percentage more accurate, but for what we need, that percent is lost in the noise of windcalls and field positions. I shot 6br and 6bra.

The problem with aw and Tikka is the round nose on the Tikka bolt. You could def mill the bottom of Tikka action open to get AW mags up in where they need to be, but stripping rounds would be a totally different problem all together.

I had a hard time deciding br,bra, dasher or gt for match use. But at that time decided that whatever I got it would be used for both to avoid more dies.

I do think the dasher and gt have the benefit to be able to use varget and h4350.

Good options to have. A hand loader aught to have atleast one of the above.

I do too. Seen creedmoors take a slight bit of tuning to be perfect but I have never once had to touch my AW w/ spacer mags or mdt dasher mags. In probably 3,000 rounds of dasher, I can't think of a single feeding error I have had, they just run.
