My brother recently bought a grizzly 36x12 lathe for a steal and yesterday used a socket and turned out a patch cutter for us. He later welded a rod to it so you can chuck it into a drill.

So sharp that you can cut patches right now 1 at a time by hand.

Have a bunch of .022" pillow ticking material so when I'm able to visit, I'll bring it with me and punch out a supply of patches.

I never thought of that one. I do however cut them out on the table in the middle of winter though.. I also make my own round balls. It is so easy to do .

I use holesaws with the teeth ground off and the remaining edge sharpened and honed much as the socket was done.Place it in my drill press and make several folds in the ticking. Then by placing a scrap piece of 5/4 board under it I cut several stacks at a time.

I then melt beeswax on a hot plate and put some olive oil in the mix, drag the patches through the hot stuff, set on wax paper to cool. Ready to load patches are the result!!! I've been doing it this way for 10+ years and works great in all my ML from 32cal all the way through 66 cal RB for a smoothbore Fowler.
