Does that mean you can't combine the lid with an old bag and frame? Or does that mean if I have a k2 frame, and a new 4800 bag, the lid won't work???
Copy and pasted from the K3 lid page on their site:
A K3 Lid comes standard with every K3 3200, K3 4800, or K3 6400 purchase. The K3 Lid is not compatible with K2 Frames.

That doesn't make any sense to me. Why would they make the new bags compatible with the old frames but not the new lid that comes standard with every bag? I would think a couple buckles will make it work? If not then that's a big over sight on their part if you cant run a lid when using a K3 bag on a K2 frame... Surely they would've anticipated that a lot of guys would keep their K2 frames and only upgrade their bag.

Exo, please chime in and clarify.

Got the new 4800 bag ordered. Looks like they pushed the shipping date back to July 15th-26th... Kind of a big window so hopefully they're not guessing/hoping at this point. If everything is made in America like they claim, what could possibly be taking so long?

Has to be hard to predict sales #'s for each color/size/bag that can be chosen.

Kind of glad they are coming out that late, too late for me this season and it will put an end to my irrational impulsive pack purchases for the year.

Was looking to get just a bag at this point but didn't realize the lid is not compatible. That's a bummer

From looking at the pictures, I think the new lids would work on the old pack with a couple modifications:
a) You would have to run the 3/4" webbing of the frame through the 1" ladderlocs on the front of the lid.
b) You would need to get 1" buckles attached to the 3/4 straps on the back or get 1" webbing loops to attach to the bag.

Neither of these are that big of a deal.

And, ultimately the new bags should be compatible with the old frame with similar mods. It would mostly be an issue of adding a 1" ladderloc to the bottom of the frame in place of the 3/4". One could easily cur the buckle off and add on the ladderlocs that has a cut on the bar. And, being that is not a huge stress point, I dont think you'd be losing much strength.

I emailed exo and will post the response once I hear back. Hoping I don't regret already selling my 5500 bag:)

The difference is the strap/buckle width is 1” on the K3 bags and 3/4” on the K2 so the lid will fit... if you cut off the 3/4” buckles and sew on some 1” buckles. That’s my guess at least.

Not really. It's not that hard to run 1" webbing through 3/4" buckles

The only buckles that would need to be cut off are the two at the bottom of the frame. Everything else is running 3/4" webbing through 1" buckles

And, hell, I wouldn't even cut em off. You could use the ladderlocs right on top of each other. I might try it tonight.

Yeah that’s true... if it were me I’d still replace the buckles on the lid, a 1” strap through a 3/4” adjustable buckle wouldn’t be easy multiple times a day for days on end.

Why would you be pulling them through constantly? They've got buckles that snap together. No need to route webbing through every time you open the lid. It's a non issue really.

With a slotted buckle it's easy to switch the one side anyways.

Adjusting them constantly. Look at the K3 below now image folding that 1” strap over and pull it through a 3/4” lid buckle. It’d be annoying at best. You’re spending all this money on a pack (or bag) and then I’d cut and switch out to a 1” buckle if it were me.

The harness side of the lid looks to be the opposite configuration. The fixed buckle is on the frame. The slider is in the lid. You’ll pull up to tighten the harness side lid straps.

New bags will work with old frames, however new bags will require new lids as well. All hardware is now 1”, also the hardware is flip flopped, in other words one side of the lid will have a male and the other a female. While the lid attachment straps connected to the bag will also have alternation hardware one side male and the other female. This allows the roll top lid to be secured to the bag lid straps or the bag can be buckled to itself like a dry bag as the K2 did.
Hope this makes sense.

That makes sense but doesn't address the question/issue. They can have the lid setup that way and still could've made it backwards compatible with the K2.
