New Mexico Javalina

Sitting in my tent now, archery otc tomorrow!

Saw a squad this evening going to water, hopefully they do the same tomorrow!

How consistent are they?

They will be around. Water right now is pretty critical, been dry for awhile.

Water is not an issue around this spot so hopefully they like certain spots!

Found another group this afternoon, great stalk resulted in a 24 yard shot!

55 degrees with a light wind, can’t complain!

Too bad it will be in the teens again tonight, but I’m leaving the buddy heater on tonight!

I’d be curious where y’all decided to hunt and found em? I’m headed down in January with my Bow. I’m love the area but I’ve never hunted pigs. Pretty excited, any hints would be grand. Thanks !

Love hunting Javelina. Really neat animals, fun to bowhunt, and they taste great. Seems like a lot of the folks who ive met that claim they are nasty, either have never actually tried them, or dont know how to handle meat in the field

What would you compare the meat to? Do you have to dress it pretty quickly or something else to it?

I dont really like comparisons. But yea like anything, get it cool as quick as possible. Be very careful of the scent gland. I use rubber gloves while skinning, then ditch that pair while working with the meat. Just be careful not to taint the meat.
My wife is pretty sensitive to off flavors. She routinely tells me I need to bring more javelina home to cook
