Actually a relief that i didnt apply this year. But, go figure, my LONG time elk hunting buddy applied with his brother and drew. First time his brother had ever applied. Must be something to that. Ive seen it happen quite a few times.

Are you a resident? There are multiple rifle elk hunts with 30% or better odds. No way should you have 2% chance every year. There's at least one Rifle bull hunt with over 80% odds for residents.

I was a resident but have been nonresident for 21 years.

But, I am applying in the guided pool so I’m lumped in w/ residents and nonresidents.

I also have extenuating circumstances because I apply in a higher demand/ lower odds unit because we have a family cabin there since the 1960’s and that is where I like to hunt.

I do choose a better odds unit as 3rd choice and alternate between archery, muzzy, and rifle.

I know how to play the game.

I’m just way better at losing than winning in the draw. And I like to complain about it once a year (I figure after 20 years I’ve earned that right). I keep my mouth shut the rest of the time and find ways and other places to hunt.
