new mex private land elk tag december?

so i got skunked on my first elk hunt, colo first rifle (solo/diy), and thinking i'd like a little vindication without waiting a year. really don't want to pay $$$ for a guided hunt. anyone know if there are any landowner tags without adding the cost of a guided hunt (or i guess a real inexpensive guided hunt)? in my brief search, all i found were guided hunts in the $5 - 12k range).

was thinking maybe as we approached december that some unused landowner tags might be had for not too terrible of a price?

one thing i don't want to do is get an inexpensive tag only to find it's because that property doesn't hold any elk.

Should be able to find plenty of cow tags.LO bull tags I'm sell for outrageous prices.The unit I drew this year isn't a trophy unit and they still wanted $4500 for just the tag
If you just want meat and some fun do a cow hunt.Plenty of those under $1500 to be found in a search

Lots of LO tags on Craigslist. Just be sure you are getting trespass rights as well, or a unit wide tag.
