I am wanting to come up with a new load that is not thrown together a week before season, for next years hunting season. I hunt in Iowa and other Mid-West states. I have a Vortek ultralite with a Nikon BDC scope. I hunt in timber and in crop fields, so longer 100-200 yards is a possibility. Does anyone have any advice for a load for this setup? Thanks in advance.

I do not really know anything about the rifle you are shooting and I am assuming you are hunting whitetail... If it were me there are a couple of loads I would try right off the bat.. 100 to 120 grains of T7 or BH it really does not matter. And for a projectile I would suggest a couple of choices...

1. The Knight .458x275 grain Bloodline Knight red sabot. It is probably the best all-around bullet there is and it is a real rifle bullet designed to work at ML speeds... Really it is probably an over kill for whitetail but it is good to 200 yards easy.

2. a .452x250 grain Knight Bloodline and sabot

Here is some information on the Bloodline

I just picked up a pack of those in 275 gr. but haven't shot them yet. Awesome looking bullets though. Friends I know and myself have had good luck w/ 110 gr. BH and Barnes bullets. Grab a the MZ and TMZ and shoot them to see what groups best. I have one friend that just started shooting Precision Bullets this year and got one with it. Seems to like them. I shot 2 does, 1 at 35 and the other at 20 with the Barnes MZ and they did the job perfectly.

You're not alone!
110 Blackhorn
250 Barnes TMZ
Fed 209s
2007 fps out of my TC Omega

Kills whitetails pretty good at 60 and 125 yds.

Groups like this at 100 yds, open sights. No scopes allowed where I'm at.....Flyer was 4th shot dirty bore, cleaned and shot the next two.
