Hello Kevin (from down in New Zealand). After more than 50 years of hanging out in our mountains I'm doing a very careful review of my gear. I have some tried and true 4 season tents (One Planet Goondies) that have proven themselves in our extreme conditions, but the weight penalty is pretty high for summer use.
Have you had any of your Silex tarps down here - the form, construction and concept look very good?? I used tarps a lot in my youth but we had nothing as sophisticated as the likes of the Silex and there were a few very uncomfortable situations that got pretty close to survival conditions. On our tops (above the bushline) winds of 40 or more knots are pretty common, and while its usually possible to find some shelter, mistakes can be made!
If I was to have skirts (these are usually consumable, we pile rocks or snow on them) added on the edges of a Silex do you think the basic structure would handle the wind loads? Please note I'm seeking an opinion, not a guarantee of any form)
Thanks
Foster
