I don't see the "need" I'm seeing from many of you. Anything outside of 500 yrds likely doesn't even know your there. Thats more than a quarter mile. You can pull out a rangefinder without a problem. While your at it. Get your spotter set up. Talk with your pard. Lay out some ammo, just in case. Have a snack and let your HR drop some. Your gonna need to be steady when the heat starts flying. Don't forget to build up a nice shooting platform.

If you think animals are close, just range objects and have a feel for what kind of shooting situation you've created.

I'm a hunter. There are plenty of options besides buying the latest and greatest. Most of the time I just hunt with a Spotting Scope and rangefinder leaving the Binos at home anyway.

It looks like an expensive toy.

Definitely not a "need." Just a "nice."

Nice to have everything consolidated in one place. Nice to simplify what you need to do, so you can focus on those other things: HR, breathing, fundamentals. Nice to never leave your rangefinder at the shooting site.

Think about it BH, You wouldn't have to leave your binos at home!

I just like the idea. We will have to see if it gets implemented in a "nice" way.

Expensive? Yes.
Toy? IDK.

One could say most items we buy are not needed. We all have our things we like, do we need them, prob not but they sure are nice.

I think I am Pre ordering tomorrow. Will sell my Swaros to off set and can't sell my rangefinder because I left in the Colorado Wilderness.

Having had my Geovids for about 5 years I cant count the number of times that they have paid for themselves and no regrets here. That being said I will stick with what I have at this time. Anyone who purchases these will not regret it for sure! For most of US it is a Want versus a Need, but many items that we acquire for hunting are a want, versus a need. If you have the ability I say for go4it!

I'm probably not reading all the info right, but from what I can gather these use the same system as the crf 1600?. Isn't the crf 1600 kinda worthless for archery hunting?

I'm on my phone so I don't know how to edit and I hit send accidentally. I mean the same ballistic calculator as the crf 1600.

Explain please. I am not familiar with Leica's angle comp.

EHR - Equivalent Horizontal Range - I read this as giving me the corrected distance after computing angle incline/decline. Is this not correct?

Thanks

angle comp doesn't work under 100 yards on 1600B. The same engine is in this bino.
Additionally, temp and pressure is used for all calcs, bad joojoo for bows. Leupold figured that out real quick.
somebody at SHOT show could find out in about 30 seconds with the unit in hand.

This unit will be great for rifles.

Not sure but I bet there is a mode to put the unit in to have no compensation of other variables... I will find out all the dirt for you guys at the show and let you know! Hopefully Vortex has something in the works...

Although I'm not in the market this year I'd like to hear directly from Leica what the bino is capable of as far as ranging distance. A fix could be as simple as a firmware upgrade to e 1600b engine.

Also, if I was thinking seriously about buying a set I'd wait until after SHOT, SCI Reno, WSF Reno and RMEF Elk Camp in Vegas. Chances are Leica will have demo models at these shows and Cameraland NY will likely be selling those demos by summer time at a significant discount. Plus by then you'll know for sure about the ranging capabilities and have reviews to read from guys who couldn't wait. Just saying.....
