I’m new here, I recently acquired a X bolt 300wm and need to select a scope. Use will be in western MT, I’m currently shooting 308 with 4-12 swaro hunting deer, elk, black bear. I’d like to learn to shoot longer range, what are y’all’s thoughts on a scope for these applications?

Leupold vx5 3x15 with firedot reticle is what i chose for my 300wm. 2 other good ones: vortex razor hd lht 4.5-22x for a lightweight option or Athlon Optics Ares ETR 4.5-30x56 Riflescope for a long range option.

Thank you for the suggestion, I was looking at the vortex. Why the leupold over the rest?

If i were to choose again i would go with the vortex for lightweight and the reticle is thinner. just didn't know about it when i bought the leupold. you can't go wrong with either though

Really depends on your budget. Everyone seems to be hot and heavy for the Maven 1.2 2.5-15 but they’re $1,200.

Swfa 3-15 would be another good option that is currently in stock and is a good bit cheaper. I have a couple 3-9’s and a 5-20 that I would definitely recommend; but they’re out of stock or discontinued.

If you like higher magnification scopes you could go with a bushnell lrhs2 4.5-18 from GA precision.

Any of the ones I mentioned have a good reputation for durability and tracking which is absolutely key for long range shooting.

I would personally stay away from leupold or vortex on a long range build.
