On this one since it was one of the prototypes the mag opening is standard rem 700 mag box 3.65" internal. But on the production ones they are cut for a wyatts box right from the start.

Has anyone fondled the new RevX by Gunwerks? My curiosity is getting to me... My question is...if you were in the market for a precision long range build (i.e. Gunwerks, MOA, etc) why would you NOT consider this over one of their more pricey models?

Anyone with any info would be greatly appreciated! It just seems to me that you can get the same functionality in a Gunwerks package for 50% less than one of their other offerings...what am I missing?

RevX - Gunwerks

Even at 50% discount, it's not a rifle I'd consider. It's still over priced. For that amount of money you can get a rifle as good, if not better, from any one of a number of builders. None of the builders you mentioned would be on my short list for picking a builder whether I wanted a 500yd, 1200yd or a 2500yd rifle. You might talk to Jim Borden, RBros, Short Action Customs, Long Rifles Inc., Defensive Edge, Crimson Accuracy, West Texas Ordinance just to name a few.

But, if they make the rifle of YOUR (general 'you') dreams then get it, shoot it and love it. Doesn't matter what anyone at the range or online (especially me) thinks.

Just handled one of these at Cabelas. They're selling for $4199. Nice gun but seems overpriced unless you're in dire need of a "semi" custom because your smith or supplier can't make the deadline.

Gunwerks is always over priced. It's like buying a designer shirt vs. having a custom shirt made by a tailor - does it last longer? Does it look better? Does it fit better? NO, it doesn't. You just paid more than you needed to. There are LOTS of renowned gunsmiths that can and will build you a rifle that's at least as capable as any Gunwerks rifle for less money. IMO, many of them will build you a more capable rifle; and with the savings, you can get a better optic.

I don't begrudge Gunwerks their TV-based success but, IMO, they serve the 'I saw the show and want to do that this weekend' crowd. For a steep price, they'll eliminate the learning curve. If you want to jump right in to LR shooting and have the cash to blow on an overpriced rifle along with all the bells and whistles (optic, rangefinder, Ballistic calculator, load development) they are the place to go. Doesn't mean they're the best - just one of the most 'convenient' for those with lots of expendable cash.

The funny thing is, there isn't a single LR shooter (competitive or hunter) that I know, or know of, that shoots a Gunwerks rifle. If you delve into the world of precision shooting, Gunwerks just isn't a name you hear much- especially these days.

Update: I now own a Gunwerks RevX in .300 win Mag. The fit and finish are great and I mounted a Vortex PST 6-24x50 that I already owned. Not the best but damn fine and i'm happy with the optic. Plus I already owned it so even better.

The gun came with a target shot with their ammo - 190 grain Berger and showed a 7 shot group at 100 yards at .6"

I wanted to know what the gun would do with factory ammo as well before I reloaded myself. So I bought two boxes of Hornady Precision Hunter 200 grain ELDX. I've now shot the gun a total of 10 times to sight it in starting at 25 yards and then dialed it in at 200.

With factory ammo I am shooting 1" at 200 yards or 1/2MOA. This was shot on a hot and windy Texas day so I know it will do better especially as I get more comfortable with the platform.

Is the gun any better than a custom job by a smith? Probably not. Does it shoot better than I can? Yes. Am I happy? Hell yes.

In my line of work and where I travel, reloading is nice but not the best option. That is why I am excited that the gun shoots factory Hornady ammo this well. I suspect it is probably a sub 1/2" gun and truthfully the high "flyer" (if you want to call it that) was me not the gun in this group... Maybe you're not impressed with 1/2" at 200 yards and that is fine...and yes this only a 3 shot group but it was getting hot, windy, and mirage was a killer so I didn't shoot more just to waste ammo. And I'm sure i'm opening myself up to the "my $100 rifle shoots that good at 15000 yards" crowd....

I've got a gun that I like and that shoots well for me. Is it for everyone? Nope but neither is a Ford or Sitka or Blondes... (I drive a chevy, wear Kuiu, and am married to a brunette) To each his own but I'll be letting the air out of a lot of fur buckets for a long time to come and am happy happy happy :)

I bougt a RevX in 7mm RM last year for $3200 NIB from reeds off Gunbroker. I love this rifle, shoots 1/2" all day long. I shot a 5x4 elk in Colorado at 489 yards last year, couldn't be happier.
