i realy like using energy gels throughout the day but in my area they only sell cliff shots. i like them, but im sure there are more out there. what do you guys like?

I tried the Gatorade chews before a mud run. I kicked my wife's butt so they must have worked. And tasty too.

Hammer nutrition.

Raspberry and Montana huckleberry. Best things ever.

You can also get a big jug of it for half the price per serving of the packets. Just get a small gel flask and refill as needed.

Of all the gels iv tried, I keep going back to hammer. Not only do they taste the best but they are the best for you.

gel flask? cool, i have not heard of those.this is why i love this site. maybe find them at REI?
i hate the sticky little bags leftover in my pack

I've been digging the powerbar ones. They're not nearly as sweet as the Clif Shot Blocks which makes them much easier to eat.

Are you talking about those or the Gu type ones? Double caffeinated Tangerine PowerGels have been my favorite since they discontinued the Green Apple.

Rei does sell hammer stuff. But I'm not sure they sell the jugs and flasks.

I get mine from a local bike shop. If you go to hammers site you can look for a dealer in your area, or order direct.

I bought a couple of the GU ones last year to try but still have one unopened. Not even sure what they're supposed to do for you other than make your wallet lighter. Still not quite sure what the deal is these days with all the "energy" type marketing stuff. Are there that many people that are really lacking energy these days or what?

Come hunting season I live on this type of stuff....the blasts above, the hammer gel huckster, and cliff blocks tend to be my fav. If you buy in large quantities at rei they give you something like a 10-15% discount.

I get drowsy and feel drained in the mtns. I always want to take a lot of naps for some reason. Something to help me keep going hard would be nice. Coffee does the trick but I'd like another option.

Don't bugling bulls give you enough energy to get through the day?;)

For whatever reason, when I get above 11k feet I feel like I've just been given an adrenaline shot........I'm ready to roll. Energy is never an issue and I'm almost 50. However, after 5-7 days straight my body is definitely feeling all the bumps and bruises and strains and knees, etc, but that has nothing to do with energy. That's why I try to break all my hunting up into about 5 day stints. Hammer it hard for 5 days and then recover for a couple and then hit it hard again. Sometimes all it takes is a 1/2 day of fly fishing and I'm ready to chase some bulls again. But I do love my coffee!

It's between bugles when I get my lows, mid day. I am the same way on spring turkey hunts. I set up the blind and decoys and zonk out.

Those caffeinated powergels that chorpie mentioned have my interest. I'm glad I saw this thread.

Gels satisfy the sweet tooth on a trip without adding a bunch of fillers or sugar. Good calories, much better than candy, but with a candy flavor.

I use gels for biking and running much more. There especially nice in that I get some calories, something in my mouth, and they don't leave me feeling bloated or sick when doing high exertion activities. Candy bars or protein bars during a run or bike ride will leave me feeling sick.

I can't stand clif shots or some others listed in this thread. Too much sugar or other sweeteners. The hammer stuff is all natural and they taste great.
