Don’t know much about either company or who created what first. However, I’ll be purchasing this tent. Excited to use a tent with TNT fabric. Should be released shortly.

It's pretty well understood that Durston was the first to bring the offset inner to the backpacking tent world.

What's the reasoning behind wanting the TarpTent instead? I've heard good things about their tents.

Said competitor already has pictures up on theirs. I've already read that on Dan's page. There's not ten percent difference between his tents and tarptents that he modeled his off of. He should know how the game is played by this point.

What tent design are you claiming Durston ripped off?

The X-Mid interior was a pretty dramatic break from conventional trekking pole tent design, especially in practical use... the interior space really is unrivaled in that class

Mostly TNT fabric and availability. Don’t believe Dan’s design is being released till 2nd quarter of 2024. He’s only posted prototype drawings so far.

Got it. I've been patiently waiting for some actual photos of the X Dome.

That TNT fabric seems really interesting, this is my first time reading about it...seems like all the pros of DCF with none of the cons...how do you beat that?!

Hows will this compare to a mountain star?
The Durston will likely be quite a bit longer and better suited for taller guys - at least that's what I'm hoping. The Kuiu rainfly is listed at 85" in length while the X-Dome will likely be close to 95".

has anyone heard any news about the x dome? I did some googling and it’s been crickets about this shelter for a while.

X-Dome 1P just launched. Great looking tent. They allegedly have plans for a 2P as well as solid inner versions.

It does look good. Really want to pull the trigger on this one. Gonna hold off on them to work the kinks out first and hopefully make a dcf version.

I’m curious on pricing. Is durston buy once cry once quality?
I love my x-mid 1 enough I think it might end my shelter buying obsession. It seems very well made to me, and I love that it doesn't sag like silnylon when it gets wet. I used to run a tarp and bivy. This seems to be right around the same weight and take up the same amount of space while providing better weather and bug/critter protection.

Looks great but I'm waiting until the second or third version for the wait time to end and for Dan to work out the kinks and tweaks/upgrades.
