I have the prototypes and the FL Corrugate Guides....and the Wrangler ATG.

The prototypes are much more generous and comfy around the thighs and rear end compared to FL and Wranglers. I gave up on the Wranglers long ago for this very reason. With that said, they taper at the leg enough to get around a pair of boots without it feeling like you have a pair of Jnco's on either...

Here's several pictures from last year (some have the background cropped out to protect the location- sorry for the weird image).

The last image shows a some elastic at the back. That made them even more comfortable than my Prana's, yet I never found the belt to get bound up in the elastic section. Arrow pointing to the vents.

The second image shows the cut and taper a little more.

The final four are some additional views and the thigh pocket (cell pocket inside).

To those wondering about the material and warmth: the two most profound things that stood out to me were (1) how well they blocked wind and (2) how well they balanced a range of temps. If I did get warm, I'd open the vents up.

When hiking out in Alaska in September I thought "these are comfy enough to sleep in, but tough enough for Alaska..."

I have every intention of buying another set of everything as soon as OV launches them.

I've found my ATG's each fit a little different. Khaki color is the baggiest, navy blue the tightest. Greenish ones have slightly different pockets and are a bit shorter on inseam, grey pair somewhere in between all that...wonder if the dyes have any effect on that or if it's all just sewing tolerances.

Thanks for posting the short guy fit. Guessing 30” inseam? Did you ever think “these are too long” or bunched at the bottom?

Definitely the short guy version at 5'6", haha!

I normally buy a 29" or 30" inseam for reference.

I wondered at first, but never found that to be the case at all. And never felt like they were too long during my hunts. I like them a touch longer for hunts so I don't have stuff migrating into my boots/shoes. These seemed perfect.

I believe @Brigham @ Outdoor Vitals made a few changes to the final iteration of these, but hopefully this gives you a good idea of how things look on the pants. I forgot I had these in the archives.

How many (external) belt loops does the pant have? Do you have any pictures of the back of the pant that shows the rest of the belt loops and their location?

Just asking out of curiosity for when I use a stiff carry belt and carry a pistol OWB without a pack. I understand it's probably not many due to the primary design of wearing a backpack hip belt over the pant while using the internal belt, but the belt loops do look beefier than what I had expected which is appreciated.

I'm not a huge fan of my current hunting pant, the KUIU Attack, but the number/size/location of its belt loops (8) is great for carrying a pistol OWB. In contrast, my Prana Brion pant is great for when wearing a backpack but doesn't work well when carrying a pistol OWB (5 belt loops, that aren't nearly as sturdy and are located in non-ideal spots).

I'm hoping that this pant fits both scenarios a bit better, as everything else about it I am super excited about!

2&3 - The pieces - design intent & quick view.
Altura Dynamic Pants. They are 4 way stretch, double weave nylon. Early-mid season, and fit slightly on the trim side. Meaning they're designed for mobility without restriction, but also without a bunch of excess fabric. The knees are articulated. The waistband has an internal and adjustable belt with a cam-lock tensioner. Two front pockets, two back pockets, one thigh pocket that sits slightly forward and has a little volume built into it. And it's got zippered hip vents with a mesh lining. The pants weigh about 13-14 ounces.

A couple questions on the Altura pants. The Satu pants fit me like skinny jeans in the calf and thigh, even though the waist is my size and fits loose. It's my one true gripe about them. How will the calf and thigh sizing of the Altura compare to the Satu?

Second, from my understanding the biggest blood vessels in the leg run on the inner side. So from a cooling perspective, would it make sense to put vent zips on the inside instead of the outer side of the pants? I had a pair of alpine touring pants that way years ago, and that seemed to make a meaningful difference. Perhaps there is a manufacturing reason why so many brands put zippers on the outside?

Good point. Yeah, I turn into a furnace when hiking uphill and find that vents are often too restrictive for my personal taste. Thanks for pointing out the potential of rub, hadn't considered that.

The fit on the new midlayer is a bit more generous than what I found on the Ventus. I have the small in the midlayer. The small on the Ventus was a no-go, so I went up to a medium.

The midlayer in a small was a little short in front than I like and a little snug around the arms. I know they adjusted for that in the final product by adding some material in both locations, which would make it perfect. I personally won’t size up (on the new piece) based on this when they release.

I really liked that it fit close to body vs some midlayers that have so much extra material that they bunch under the belt. This seemed like the perfect balance.

The performance end is apples to oranges in comparison. They’re nothing alike (in a good way).

I can’t wear the Ventus while doing anything active or I sweat profusely. I do love that thing as an insulation piece in early season.

I lived in the new midlayer- even while moving. I peeled it off on warmer hunts (sun out, unseasonably warm October, etc.), but that was about it.

I liked it so much that I’ll likely buy enough of these to support OV through FY2026 when they release it, haha!

I picked up the ventus late last season to have a lightweight option. I tend to run hot so I end up carrying it more often than not until I stop. Which is why I went light as possible.

I’m happy to see this new layer come out - OV has been good to me so far. I am interested in the puffy pants @Brigham @ Outdoor Vitals as well but I think that’s not this year.

A sun hoody has been something I have felt like Goldilocks over. I’ve tried about 5 brands and haven’t found the one I like yet. The OV one was small for the size, and if it’s being reworked I’ll look forward to that too.

I have one more for you guys. The Sitka Ambient (original 1/2 zip hoody version) seems to be the clear competitor to the OV mid layer. For those of us who wear that and really like it - what is the OV midlayer bringing to the table that the Ambient doesn't? The two potential things that stick out to me are the grid fleece sections and the thumb loops. It's nit-picky but the cuffs on the Ambient are kind of odd. Sounds like maybe the OV piece runs a little cooler as well? Interested in your feedback.

I haven’t used the OV myself but based off of appearance and making assumptions it seems more like it would be a closer competitor to the ambient 75 or the 60ul they released for a short while. Being as they are lighter weight than the original ambient and also have the body mapped grid fleece.

There are obvious feature differences that you pointed out, but the biggest between those two pieces for me (I own both) are when you can wear them. I've worn the Ambient pulling a hill to a ridge when it's been in the low 20s and sweating profusely. It was just way too warm for me doing anything active. The new mid layer has been a perfect balance between a much broader range of temperatures.

@jonnyviceroy is right on the weights of the Evolve used in the different pieces. The OV mid layer is much lighter and closer to the 60 or 75. That said, I do have the full-zip MDWi (Arrowhead/Sitka) that's similar weight to the 60/75 and still would prefer the OV mid layer. The mix of grid and Evolve just seems to be a great balance of providing warmth when needed, but moisture wick/cooling as needed, too (I was too warm in the all-Evolve stuff. (Full transparency: I'm a huge grid-fleece fan. Even with all the new fancy materials out).

I also loved the half-zip (more like 2/3?) on the OV piece to dump heat/allow some cool air when really moving (I believe the Ambient has similar, but I could never dump enough to use while active).

Brigham, would you consider restricting the pre-order to only a few items per order? I would hate to miss out on getting these pieces as fast as possible if others are ordering multiple colors of the same item? I of course have no idea what volumes you have coming in but it was an idea! Take care
