Been looking at the Leupolds pro guide. but also have a voice in the back of my head that says throw in a few more hundred and get the Santiam or Vortex Razor HD. looking at 10 or 12 by 50s. maiming going to be used in Minnesota and Wisconsin with random trips out west and Alaska. opinions? real world experience?

I would also be curious which of those options people prefer. I've been really interested in the Pro Guides.

In my eyes, the Razor HD has a greyish hu to the image. Bx-4's are neutral and actually brighter and more crisp. But then I'm old and I had PRK lasik 15 years ago which screwed my eyes up. Lots of scar tissue and night vision is now ruined. Zeiss Conquests are better than either one of em but not by much. With all that said I kept the BX-4.

I had a pair of bx4 pro guides 10x42 and thought they were very nice, especially for the price. I sent an old pair of leupold binos in for warranty because something in the diopter adjuster broke and they sent me those as a big upgrade replacement because they didn’t have parts or the same bino to send because of the age. I ended up selling them, but If I didn’t already have a pair of swaro els I would’ve kept them. Me and some buddies passed them around and compared them to our swaros and leicas and thought they were very good. In low light they weren’t as bright, but I thought they were great for the price range.

Same with my eyes, the UHD do too, almost like the view was foggy, yet they were clear, both just seem to wash out contrast… at least the razor hd are light, I would pick them over the uhd if I had to pick… don’t like either though

I have the Pro Guides 10x42. I wear them on chest and use my Swaro SLC 15’s for tripod glassing. For the money, the Leupolds are tough to beat. You can get them used on here for sub $400 and they are made in Japan. Are they the best? No, but for the money they are hard to beat. Tough to get something not made in China for that price.

I would second the GPO but in a 10x42 or the Leica Trinovids in 10X42. You will not like trying to find a whitetail in tight cover with a 12 power binos.Great for out west but not for close quarter whitetails.
