New 25 Creed vs 6 Creed

I shot 25 Creed loaded with 131 blackjacks in 2019/2020 for PRS and enjoyed it. Back then we pushed those bullets 2950 to 3000. Then Blackjack (ACE) got sideways with business and Sierra and disappeared. More guys started adopting the 25 Creed, but couldn't push the new Bergers as fast without pressure. Was fine as everyone was starting to slow their loads down to see more in that game. I own multiple 6.5 and 6 Creed barrels, and shot 6XC for a long time.

If you already own a 6.5 and a 6 Creed, then 25 just makes more work to load for more cartridges and keep track of more shit, with very little difference honestly. If you don't own any of these, then the 25 is your Goldilocks. If you want a short barrel that still shoots 100+gr bullets fast, then 6 Creed is your answer. I have a 20" 6 Creed pushing 108's at 3030 fps. I have an 18" 6.5 Creed that will shoot 123 ELDM's at 2950. You'd have to drop a good bit in bullet weight with less attractive bullets in 25 to have short barrel velocity (if you care about that). The 6 Creed just does this best in my opinion.

Felt recoil between 6.5 and 25 is pretty negligible--you need to go to 6 to really feel the difference. I'm specifically leaving out the 22 Creed because I think it falls into another niche, but I'm probably going to pick a 6 over a 22 most of the time.

At the end of the day if you understand your wind call error, for instance 3 mph, then you'll realize there's terribly little difference in drift at that error between the above mentioned cartridges, and that's comparing at 800-1000 yards. It's nothing at most normal hunting distances. Don't just look at gross drift for comparisons.

Anywho, I think 25 looks a whole lot more interesting in a PRC or maybe a SAUM case--but at the end of the day I'd probably just do a 6.5 SAUM still. Now, on the comp scene, while shooting a 6 dasher now, I'd be lying if I wasn't tempted by a 25x47.

You may want to check that. Last I looked they were identical more or less.

Pretty dang close, but the 25 can be shot faster with higher BC.

I looked at one extensively before building my 25 western. As much as I wanted one, it never blew my skirt up. I would have been sacrificing too much running a shorter barrel. Happy with the projected 3150fps ill get out of my 18" 25w once break in is complete. It was appealing because of the component availability rather than having to find good 6.8w brass and fire forming cases as much.

Happy with my choice. I suspect it will be very popular with people who have been holding out on the 6.5 but don't want to step down to a 6 in fear of losing a man card when they tell their friends that shoot magnum 30s.

I did the 25-6.5 prc as I had a magnum bolt faced action that needed a barrel. I went 22” barrel and am just over 2800 at 55g. People say I can go up to 60g. Where the 128 eldx sounds good is my 25-35ai. A little lighter to compensate for the lower case capacity and it’s a sub 8 lb rifle.

Yes. I did have to modify the stem a little as it was deforming the tip on the 134’s. Drilled it a little deeper for clearance.

Really thinking about the 25CM. I requested a quote for a barrel yesterday so should get the invoice today. Have to decide if I want to commit. I really like the idea of a 25PRC but I cant convince myself I want to reload for it. I dont think I would be shooting anything over 6-700 yards anyway. Love shooting my 6CM but I just want a little more bullet.

Been shooting and reloading the 25 creed in a comp gun since last year, easy to load, good brass available from Alpha. It's by far my favorite rifle to shoot. Liked it so much, I built a second 25 creed for NRL open light and hunting. You'll like it a lot.

I currently have the 22, 6, and 25 creedmoors all in pretty similar weights and builds. On the second 25 creedmoor barrel and 3 or 4th 22 creedmoor. Had a 6.5 for a while but the 25 creedmoor was a significant performance improvement with a touch less felt recoil and 134eld handloads were almost 200 fps faster than 140eld handloads (after trying multiple powders in the 6.5 to squeeze a little more from it). So I no longer have the 6.5. Part of that issue could have been the factory tikka barrel was slow and not as heavy out front as my 25 barrel. But it was enough to sway me.

The recoil difference between exact same weight 25 and 6 creedmoor is pretty noticable for me. The 25 is right at the edge of easily spotting shots and some awkward shots in the field I can’t reliably spot. The 6 is a noticable step down in recoil. At 1000 yards I could not discern a difference in hit rate on steel between the 6 and 25 even though on paper the 25 creedmoor should be better.

If I could only have one it would probably be the 6cm, mostly because of the significantly less recoil without significantly different external ballistics.

Yes and yes. M+ fits essentially perfect with 134s and 135 with the blackjack spec reamer

26" and 2840-50 with Berger 135s over 41.26 grains of H4350. Alpha Brass.

Thanks, so probably 2750-2800 in a 24" barrel. Assuming 7.5twist? Using the AB stability calculator it makes it seem as if a 7twist is needed for 135-138 bullets.

I don't think that I'm pushing mine very hard, so your guess is a safe bet, but you could probably do a bit better, velocity-wise.

I have 7.5 twists on both rifles, no issues stabilizing hornady 134's and berger 135's. Berger's stability calc is what I used, it says the Hornady 138's will stabilize fine on a 7.5.
