Any fellow Nevada Roksliders or anyone with some knowledge. I am going to be in Las Vegas from mid January to mid February and was hoping to get out and do some hiking and shed hunting. I was curious if I am going to be to early or not. I am not looking for anyones honey holes by any means but just trying to figure out where to start. Unfortunately I don't have any contacts in Nevada so I'm starting from scratch. Any info, input or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to shoot me a PM or post here with any comments. Thanks!

Justin

You could always come up to Utah. Not sure if they are dropping or not but I could ask around. You just need to take an online course.

I'll take a look at the Utah route. Is the law already in effect for no shed hunting? Is it enforced? Havent been able to find any solid information.

Are you guys serious that you need to take an ethics class to collect shed antlers?? And have they really passed a law to prevent you collecting antlers during a certain time period in Nevada??

Talk about over regulation! That is unbelievable.

Greed has people bumping deer even before half have even shed. Utah is tough. I usually wait and end up just seeing people's tracks but still find a few. It's frustrating go to early and I'm that guy that I continually cuss or wait and always be a day late

Antlers, Women and Money... The three things that make men do some crazy sh*t. And because of it, you now have shed antler seasons. What a mess...

Can't shed hunt from jan to April in nv. Can't pick up any. Sucks but when you have idiots pushin deer and elk around, I would rather have ways to keep the wildlife healthy this time of year. Now I just have to watch bucks and hope the sheds stay until legal pick up time.

Their is no class in nv also for this. Just the season.

Wow I didn't realise it was such a big thing. Over here we will just collect an antler if we find one but I don't know anyone that has gone specifically looking for them.

Totally agree that it is best to not push them around.

When I was in Jasper I found this elk antler (well actually watched two elk fighting and one snapped off) but I was told that they had to stay in the NP so I left it there.

That's an awesome picture what an experience. Shed hunting can be addicting for sure. Great way to escape cabin fever

Here is the fight

And the unlucky Elk with a snapped antler - he was absolutely spent after that fight. They really give it their all - must have been fighting for 20 minutes.

I heard guys were chasing elk around the Elko and Ely areas with trucks and quads to get the horns to drop.

I love finding sheds and would even use them as an excuse to be in elk country. Can't imagine risking the herd health to get them though. Even for a few hundred bucks.
