looking for a 4 person 4 season tent that durable for snow, but not the top of the line price either if at all possible.
another option is 2pcs of 2 person tent.
like the idea of a tub style bottom i think

Not sure what your budget is, but I was recently in your scenario and ended up finding a used Hilleberg Keron 4 GT. This is their "flagship" tunnel tent- tried and trusted in pretty much every environment. Expensive tent to buy new, but found one for 750. It is a little heavy at 11 lbs but it is a true 4 season tent that i have had great luck with. if you have 3 or 4 thats only 3 lbs a piece. It will also truly accomodate 4 and gear with the huge vestibule. Palace for 3 but i have done 4 comfortably.
Bottom line is dont count out higher end stuff if you can find a deal on it. Resale if ever needed will also be much easier.

How you plan on using it is an important consideration. Will you only be using it for car/truck camping, or do you plan on packing in with the tent? Backpacking in, or using stock animals?

Bubble Diy pack in

Ahlgringo read lot of great things on hillleberg would not count it out if a actual deal was there, otherwise prob not an option this time.

Skindaddy, If I'm packing in during cold weather, a stove is an exceptionally important option to me, at 53. When I was young, going without heat wasn't a big deal. Now, in cold weather I consider it a necessity. As such, if I were looking for a shelter I would be using in cold weather, I'd be looking at one of the ultra light tipi's. For 4 people, I would be looking at at least what they call an 8 man tipi, so you have room for the stove and some gear. They are floor-less, but you do have options if you want a separate floor. If having heat is not a necessity, you have plenty of options, but I am pretty sure you can do the tipi thing with a stove, and keep the weight below that of a traditional 4 season tent of comparable floor space.

Skindaddy,
Are you going to be above treeline a lot and in highly exposed areas? If so, I'd look for a tunnel design if weight is critical. If weight isn't too big of a deal, a dome is handy up high.

FWIW - When I'm packing a smaller footprint tent, I seem to have plenty larger footprint site options. When I'm packing a larger footprint tent, I seem to have plenty smaller footprint site options. I'd consider the versatility of two tents.

Lots of good questions.... truck vs backpack, season, terrain, altitude, etc, etc.

I think I'm not atypical, but I have a handful of tents, tarps and tipi's for this specific use & that. And I tend to save my lightest most expensive gear for those hunts/trips that absolutely require it and put the majority of wear & tear on my cheapest solutions.

Why use a several hundred dollar tent for a short 4-5 mile or truck base tent when a cheap Coleman dome tent and a poly tarp will work just fine.

Buy used and make your $$$'s go as far as possible, even if it means more than one specific solution at differant price points.
