Need help on what truck to get.

I'm looking at 2013-2017 Chevy or Fords. In full size crew cab and long bed. I do some towing and hauling but not anything that would warrant a diesel but I would get one for reliability if thats the best bet for those years. I would like an F250 or 2500 but would go to the 350 or 3500.
Pretty much I just would like to know what years and engines I should stay away from.
Thanks guys my 1500 dodge is rotted out and on its last leg and its only an 09!

I have a mechanic emphatically trust, he is telling me without a doubt go Chevy (diesel) with the Allison trans. (yes I am shopping for a newer truck).

Have you google searched them both? Go on some ford and chevy forums to see if any known problems exist and what they are saying. Personally I’d drive the Ram till that last leg of hers stops kicking then get a 17 or newer f250.

I purchased a preowned 2017 F250 6.7L, King Ranch 4dr, long bed, 4x4 in late July 2019. Factory stock. Very impressed with 6.7L torque, Thoroughbred ride, 16.5 mpg Hwy Dallas to TN. Instrument cluster and layers are easy to use. My old ranch truck for 29 years, one owner, was a GMC K2500 gas. This KR has B&W turnover ball for my GN 20’ Stock trailer, 16k equipment trailer. spray on bed liner, soft bed cover (Added, no improvement on mpg), and also came with weather-guard matts, and Thunderstruck front bumper. This may be better than Ranch Hand. After nearly a year 12k miles later, no regrets, no looking back. Yes you look into Next week for a U turn or a parking spot but that is a small concession for so much truck. The view is good up here. Look at these.

Factory tune could be improved for torque, economy, and throttle response. I don’t like the “double honk” or the speed limiter at 93 mph. Now that it’s out of Ford warranty I am looking at programmer interfaces for tuning, fault code reset, and Deleting the limiter and double honk.

If I could walk out and buy any truck today, it would be an F250 with the Tremor Package and 7.3L V8.

My wife drives a 2012 F250 6.7 powerstroke and it’s been a good truck. It has 90K miles and we had one problem with a def sensor around the 40K mark other than that it has been a great truck. It’s used for towing maybe 10 times a year to haul cattle in a 24’
trailer. I’ve been very impressed with the 6.7 powerstroke.
I drive a 2015 6.7 Cummins 2500 with 157K miles and same story it’s been a very reliable truck and have had no issues with it except for a crack in the coolant overflow reservoir. I pull a stock trailer with it pretty regularly and it gets hammered on these oilfield roads here in NW NM but so far it seems to be holding up good. It does use a lot more def fluid than the powerstroke but I hope to delete it soon as well.
I have no experience with a Duramax but was told by a mechanic that they are more expensive to repair if you do have problems.
Over all I think the Fords are better bulit(stronger/heavier front end, drivetrain, and body, and I think that 6.7 powerstroke is an awesome, very well built engine.
My next truck will probably be a 6.7 powerstroke.

the 6.0l gasser in the 2500 has been a solid engine for me but I am only at 160K on it so it could come unglued on me soon. 11mpg all day every day is a bit of a drag though.

I’m a car dealer 40 some odd years. Made money on them all.

Chevy just is a better long term ride especially suspension wise.

This might sound odd to some, but for me it would depend on where i live.
There are Ford areas of the country, and there are Chevy areas of the country.
Where i live its a Ford area. The Ford dealers are more numerous, better quality, with more and more experienced diesel techs around. More Ford mod shops as well.
You cant find a decent Chevy Tech around to save your life ( i know, i've tried for years).
But go to a Chevy area, and its the opposite.
I'm a fixed ops director for an auto group so you could take this as my professional experience not just me tossing my opinion around.
Ironically, we own and I supervise a large Chevy store. I drive a Ford

I went through the same exercise in 2018. I’m not brand loyal to any of the manufacturers. They are all pretty dependable these days. You will hear horror stories and success stories on both sides. In my research, I couldn’t find any significant differentiators. I ended up with an F250 6.7 diesel. I think I would have been happy also with the Silverado 2500. Ultimately, I liked the Ford interior better. Otherwise, it was basically a toss up.

I have been looking at the 2015/2016 and 2017 f350 crew can long bed. Due to price I think 17 would be my max. I also have been looking for just an xlt package since I don’t need all the bells and whistles that come with the lariet or platinum package. Talking to my buddy that works at a diesel shop he said to watch out for the Canadian trucks due to rust, being in Washington there is a ton of trucks that come from BC and he said he sees trucks all the time with rust that are just a few years old that spent the first couple years in Canada.

Wanted to buy a ford (think they look nicer and definately have a better interiors), but two things scared me away - the fuel pump issue they have (currently involved in a class action lawsuit) and the issues they have with their front end (death wobble/total rebuilds under 100K).

It literally doesn't matter. Drive both and pick the one you like. Chevy's do ride better than Ford's due to the IFS. I like Ford's personally though.

Yep, want a more car like ride=Chevy

I'd prefer Ford or Dodge for a truck that works. I'm a die hard diesel fan but they have so much mandatory crap on them nowadays if I wasn't going to delete everything I'd consider a gas motor.
