Need A Quiet Air Rifle

I need a reasonably priced pellet gun (sub $200 preferably) to remove some problem squirrels. Max range is 25 yards, usually less. I’ve got some elderly neighbors so I need something pretty quiet that won’t alarm them. Seems like the whisper models from Gamo get pretty good reviews, but some reviews say they aren’t really that quiet. I know that’s a pretty subjective thing. Any thoughts?

Springers in general can be a little loud but def quieter than a suppressed .22 I would say, I have both. The Gamo is a good little rifle. I’ve used a similar powered RWS side lever and energy isn’t an issue.
A PCP rifle will be the quietest option but that gets you into a different price range.
Are you able to shoot from within the house through an open window? That’s the best way to keep the noise down if you go with the Gamo.

Hopefully you don't live in town. Most towns with a firearm ordinance, bows, slingshots, air rifles, pellet guns all fall into the felony category. Kind of a pain in the ass.

I run an older Gamo .22 with the built in suppressor with heavy projectiles for your same use case. It works really well, and is as quiet as I could hope for. Keeping the projectile subsonic is a big part of the equation, and the extra weight helps make up for the slower velocity.

My Barra PCP rifle was about $450 with scope and pump. It is apx 1/3rd as loud as my ( loud) Whisper pump gun and more accurate.

To the OP, I couldn’t find a pellet gun that was quiet enough to allow me to shoot problem rabbits in our suburban yard. I took the screen off a window in our bathroom and started sniping them from inside. Obviously, I had a much more limited field of view to shoot then I would have if I had been able to be outside, but the noise issue was resolved.

Sniping from inside would be more fun, but have you considered live traps? After you catch one, bring the trap into the garage to dispatch the critter while it’s still in the trap.

Gammo swarm maxim .22. I've killed everything from mice to coyotes in my yard, and used it to dispatch a deer that was hit by a car (didn't have anything else with me, but barrel to the head with the gammo was instant lights out).

Accuracy is very good. I zero at 25 yards and can shoot a 1/2" group if it's not terribly windy. I've shot squirrels out to about 50 yards but the holdover is a little ridiculous.

Regarding noise... It's not loud, but it's not Hollywood quiet either. I think it's perfectly acceptable to use in a yard, far quieter than a leaf blower or other power tools.

Thanks, fellas. I put the word out to some friends in the neighborhood and was able to borrow one from a buddy that had the same issue I am having.
