Does Nebraska have much public land hunting available? I am considering trying to get a nonresident Whitetail buck permit or taking my boy out there for a youth hunt. Thanks for any help you can give.

3rd least amount of any US state. You might have luck getting permission for your son but residents struggle to get permission in general. Way more demand than supply. I build fence in the summer in exchange for permission on an ok 160 acres. Cash options if you are willing to pay.

Yeah any and all public will have pressure. I guess if depends on where your from and what your use to.

The deer hunting in Nebraska really collapsed in the last 5-7 years. The statewide population last year was at a 30 year low with much more restrictive NR tag allocation.

There are a few concentrated areas of public land that get hit pretty hard. It’s doable but don’t let the $5 youth tags fool you.

On the eastern end of the state it's all whitetail (no muleys), but there's comparably less public land and higher public pressure from the bigger cities (Lincoln, Omaha, Kearney). I personally wouldn't try anything on the eastern end unless it's private or you know exactly what you're getting into.
The western end is a bit of a different story, I still have private land connections out there so I don't do much public, but I have quite a few friends that hunt both whitetail and mule deer on public with mixed success. That's where I'd spend my time if I didn't have any private to hunt, but you'll still see other hunters out there pretty much guaranteed.

What area do you hunt? ******* has been pretty good
Welcome to the slide. Since you’re new around here, a bit of advice.

If you enjoy hunting this area and are experiencing success it’s wise to not broadcast the locations on the internet. It will literally take 1 season for people to start showing up in droves. You might want to edit your post to remove specific locations. Your spot burning not only yourself, but all the other hunters around there.
