Near Total Eclipse on the CO rifle opener

Thanks for the heads up! Will be in the forest at that time as well. Would be awesome if the eclipse gets them moving more mid-morning on the 14th.

Bringing this to the top. My son has his first elk tag and and we will be hunting the western slopes of Colorado. I told my wife about it when I read this thread and forgot about it. Going through my gear this past weekend my wife handed me something and said " throw these in your pack for you and Ethan". It was 2 pair of the paper framed dark tinted glasses for looking at the eclipse. She ordered them 2 months ago and never told me. I thought it was pretty cool. She's a good one

An idea if you have a spotting scope, tripod and some other chunks of cardboard:

Supposedly 80mm scopes will grab enough light to overheat the insides, but 65 and under will be fine.

Also, we get a new moon on opening day. Finally, some dark nights during the best elk hunting season segment in CO and the hunting gods are blessing us this year with a new moon and up to 90% blockage of the sun between 9:15 and noon aka legal shooting hours.
