My first morning of my two week rut hunt in Ne. This is my view to my right. After about 2 hours in the stand a buck decides to stroll on by at 100 yards. I give him a couple grunts and hear he comes. He heads strait west and hangs up in the fence line about 60 yards from me. There is no way I can coax him any closer.

I wasn't able to hunt the evening of the 1st. The farmer (not the landowner who still controls the hunting rights) was being a jerk about us hunting again that year. After getting the farmer on the same page as the landowner and us I climbed into a tree the evening of the 2nd. This is my view strait in front of the stand.

Well shortly after sunset this buck strolls down the field edge from the opposite end of the field. I ended up missing him at 35 yards. Shot right under him. The buck was strait out in front of me.

I am back in the stand I sat on the morning of Nov 1st. I have the trusty ol buck decoy set up at 12 yards.

About an hour after first shooting light I spot a buck coming over the ridge from the west. He us 200 yards out and angling to the SE down the line from me. I give him a few grunts and here he comes.

When he hits 95 yards he hangs up for awhile. He is milling around feeding in the corn field. I usually try not to grunt to a buck if he us not moving.

When he starts walking again he is headed strait north. I give him a few more grunts to get him to veer my direction.

This is him at 95 yards.

He ends up circling around to the north side of the decoy. When he hit 25 yards all postured up he stops. I settle the pin on him and let the arrow go.

He crashed into the fence as he ran by me at 20 yards. He ended up going about 100 yards.

He has 12 scorable points but I don't think any of them are longer then 6".

After grunting this buck in twice and getting him to posture up on the decoy I had to shoot him.

After tagging the buck on the 4th I bought my 2nd tag that night so I was back in the stand. Fast forward to the 5th. My busy chuck missed this buck on the morning of the 5th at 15 yards. It bugged him bad.

This year Ne opened up archery season on the 1st of September. Well I always have wanted to shoot a big buck on my birthday. Look who is standing under one of our stands on my birthday with an open archery season. Too bad I am in Co chasing elk on that day.

For the first 10 days of our hunt in Ne the temps have been mild. Typical Nov weather. Lows in the 30's with high's in the 50's to low 60's. Well on the afternoon we got hit with the cold front of all cold fronts.

We woke up the morning of the 11th to an inch of snow on the ground. The temp was 17 degrees with a 20 mph NNW wind. There was no way I was going to climb into a stand and take a beating from them winds.

I elected to sit on the ground next to a tree with a brush pile behind me.

At first light I had a small silverware buck come in to 7 yards. (Spike & fork). Lol. He seem me but I held still so he decided to veer off to safer ground.

About 10 minutes later I look to the west and there is a buck making a scrape. At this time I don't even have my bow out of the sling or any of my gear out of my pack. I quickly get organized. I get the binocs up and see its a Forky. At thus same time a fawn strolls in behind me and catch's my wind at 20 yards. Well she starts blowing heading towards a standing corn field. The Forky hears the fawn and strolls out from behind the tree he was making the scrape behind.

I watch the Forky for a while as he makes his way to 40 yards. I look back to the west and there is another deer by the scrape. I get my binocs on him and it's ol club. I made up my mind to shoot him just because of all the character he has in that rack.

I am ready with the bow and when club catch's up to the Forky I am going to let the arrow fly. Just when ol club hits the 40 yard mark I hear a grunt to the east.

Out of the corner of my eye hear. I spot the 8 pointer coming in.

I am at full draw this she time standing next to a tree. A have now got 3 bucks all at 40 yards or less from me. I turn my bow onto the 8 pointer and when he stops I am shooting.

He stops perfectly in the widest shooting window I have there. I settle my 30 yard pin on him and the arrow is on its way.

I hear the loud thud of the arrow hitting him. He whirls but I know he isn't going far. After the first 10 yards blood is pouring out if his mouth. He goes maybe 40 yards and down for the count.
The blood trail I had to follow was pretty easy as you can see. This is how I found him.
