My side of the BlackOvis/Camofire story - Podcast and Q&A

I didnt listen to the podcast but I know how a good business can be tanked by a PE firm that only cares about ROI.

Thank you for telling us what happened.

For anyone hating on the OP. Cut him some slack, and if you don’t care about the podcasts then don’t listen to them. He made the effort to do a condensed “Cliffs Notes” version in post #7. That’s more than most would do. I don’t recall Remington getting ahold of me and trying to explain when they fell apart. He obviously wants to explain what happened and has some sense of loyalty and obligation to his customer base on Rokslide, even if if circumstances made it so he couldn’t help everyone he wanted to at the end. I bought a few things from BO and they were great to deal with.

@ktowncamo

I’m one that was shocked by all this going down. And disappointed in the paying of returns and vendors.

I’d always had such good interactions with you.

In short.
What would lead me to be inclined to do business with you or any brand your associated with moving forward?

I’m assuming you are still associated with Crispi?

You just have to weigh if he is providing goods in the future that you need.

I feel for him some. PE firms come in and promise everything including a captial infusion to grow. You think it will be good and allow you to grow. What generally happens is they meeting and report you to death riding you to get the ROI back in a timeline that frankly doesnt take the health of the business into consideration and will break you in the progress.

I have watched it happen to close personal friends. It happens in the construction industry all the time.

I really want some lapponias.
But I’ve been holding off because of this.

I really think people have this idea of how businesses work and then there is the reality of what is really happening.

Hopefully this sheds some light on how much control you lose over your business when PE takes over.

@ktowncamo ,
I met you a few times at expo and enjoyed talking deer, plants and adventures.
Kendall took care of a bunch of folks at a company I used to work for. It was really appreciated.
I'm sorry this happened to you.
I would fully support and recommend any venture you took in the future.

I for one commend you for coming on here and sharing your side of the story. That takes balls and integrity in my book.

You won’t make everyone happy and I get that. People feel slighted and I get that too.

I just hope the people who feel that way can keep from getting this shut down.

Are you trying to get into the business of podcasting and using this as a stepping stone? If so, you could do 4 podcasts about getting in the podcast business. It would be like a podcast about podcasting. Clever, huh?

I would rather smack my nuts on a flat rock with a mallet than listen to these podcasts. This is a business failure. They happen every day. You sold surplus hunting gear. Wow! Have you decided who you want to play you in the movie?

I have no interest in it, nor can I imagine that anyone who did not lose money in a transaction would either. Post something on the favorite things on the smoker thread. Way more meaningful.

Do you want to hear my life story in 4 episodes? People need to get over themselves for God's sake.
Fair enough. And no, I'm going into podcasting. Thanks for your opinion.

To be clear, I am completely out of Crispi. I detail this in the podcast. It happened on Dec 31, 2024. I am in no way affiliated with that company or any other company in the hunting industry.

Putting myself in your shoes, I would likely hesitate to do business with someone again if I didn't get a chance to hear their side of the story and make a judgement call one way or the other. Up to this point, the only narrative publicly told to my knowledge is what the gentleman from Aziak produced and whatever anyone else concluded from reading the filing or even public speculation. I don't fault anyone for the conclusions they have drawn based on a single or limited perspectives.

If I ever participate in a business that has something to do with hunting, earning trust will be a long uphill battle, yet one worth the effort IMO.
