My knife builds

I did a bit of reprofiling on this design. I wanted to slim it down a little and make it a good "do it all" field prep knife. Its sort of part boner and part hunter.

The steel is 3mm Nitro V with cryo treatment. The blade is a full flat grind, with a nice distal taper down to the point. The handle is a tapered tang, with Tiffany blue G10 handle scales, black g10 liners and stainless Loveless bolts.

Not fan of the color but overall the knife looks great!

Yes, people are going to go either way on the colour I think.

But just think, when your wife says "get me something in Tiffany blue for my birthday", you've got her covered :ROFLMAO:

Just finished up a knife with my first go at using sambar antlers for the handle. A guy that I used to hunt with does a bit of forging and wanted to learn about knife making after seeing some of my knives. He spent a few days with me last year, and I took him through the whole process. He offered to give me some antler for handle material, and I was happy to take him up on the offer. As expected, I learned a few things in the process of working with the antler, but pretty happy with how this first one turned out.

Steel is 2.5mm VG10 stainless random pattern Damascus in a full flat grind. The handle is a tapered tang with antler scales, black G10 liners and brass pins & lanyard tube.

Some may have already seen this one on the Canadian belt knife thread, but I am adding it here to the builds thread for consistency.

The blade is 2.5mm Nitro V steel with cryo treatment. The bevel is a full flat grind. I used less ricasso than I usually would to maximise the cutting edge. The handle is a tapered tang, with orange G10 scales, thin orange and white G10 liners and G10 pins. The blade length is 3.5". I was going for something small and light to carry with this one. I will have a larger model don some time later this week.

This looks fantastic! How much do you charge for one of these?

This is another boner I finished up the week before heading to the Wodonga outdoor expo last weekend. A young bloke at the expo bought it and assured me he would be putting it to work straight away. I have made a few with this handle material and it has been popular. The colours really come out well as a by-product of the coke bottle shape I like to put on these knives.

The steel is the last bit of 2.5mm Elmax steel I had left in the workshop. The blade is a shallow hollow grind with a distal taper to a fine point. The tang is tapered down to about .5mm, with camo G10 handles, fine white and orange G10 liners and orang G10 pins.

This one is inspired by the Half Face Blades Crow Scout. Full tang, flat grind blade in 3.8mm Elmax. Handle is camo G10, with G10 pins and carbon fiber lanyard tube. I still need to make a kydex sheath and sharpen the edge, but otherwise its done.

Nice work!!

This is one I finished just before the outdoor expo the other week. The handle material turned out nicely, so I thought there was every chance it would sell at the expo, but as it happened, there wasnt a lot of interest in it. Its a bit of an ongoing mystery trying to pick the knives that are going to be popular at shows.

The blade is 3.2mm Nitro V with cryo treatment with a full flat grind bevel down to about 0.2mm on the edge. Handle material is book-matched gidgee with thin red G10 liners and brass Loveless bolts & lanyard tube. Also a couple of extra phots below showing the figure in the handle material and the sheath.

That’s a nice piece! Love that handle, and the sheath! Super nice work!

Had some blades made from Norway for years that I forgotten. So, I cobbled together this simple boot knife. Blade is JB welded in small piece of deer antler. Guard is a copper penny and base a Winchester 20 gauge shell. It’s obvious I’m not a knife maker. But, this will do. Damn sharp. Just sumthin’ to do one day. MTG

Havent posted any knives for a while as I was madly trying to get stuff finished to take to the Melbourne knife show which was held a couple of weeks ago. As with most shows, it becomes a race to get stuff ready in time.

This is a knife I finished a while back, but I didnt like the way it was finished, so I reground it into something I like a bit better. This is a play on the Loveless semi skinner design. The steel is S35VN with a full flat bevel. The handle is a tapered tang with green micarta, thin red G10 liners, brass Loveless bolts and brass Lanyard tube.

This is another one I had at the Melbourne knife show the other weekend (3/4 May). This style of general purpose hunting knife has been the most popular knife out of pretty much everything I make, so I wanted to get a couple of these hunters finished for the show.

The steel is 3mm NitroV with a full flat grind. The bevel is taken down to .2mm at the edge and the blade has a distal taper to the point. The handle is a tapered tang with micarta scales, red G10 liners, brass Loveless bolts and brass lanyard tube. The handle is a "Coke bottle" style that I use on the majority of my knives nowadays. Also shown with a sheath that is made for me to my specs.

Impressive work!

This is one my son made to take to the Melbourne knife show. Like me, he was racing to get stuff finished for the show, so this was only ready the night before the show. We were getting all our knives finished until late that night, so never got any good photos before we went to the show, and this is one of the 3 knives he sold at the show. These couple of photos were a ones I took after we set up our table on the first morning "just in case" I never got a chance to take any better photos.

The Blade is 5mm stainless Damascus with a full flat grind and a distal taper to the point. The blade length is a little under two inches, so its not a big knife - more intended to be an innocuous EDC blade. The handle is sambar antler with black G10 liners and brass pins. It was his first time working with Damascus and antler, so a bit of a learning experience for him. The steel was an offcut that he found, and the antler was also left over from a bigger piece that I cut down. Its shown with the cross draw sheath that was made for it by a friend of mine.
