My gear/pack layout from base layers to binos

Snow overwrites work better than rain suits for this though- Varusteleka makes the ones I would choose.

This was really helpful, thank you.

I heard from Varusteleka and the L7 pants should be back in stock in December or January.

Back up options for me are Crye Precision ATO™ LW Overwhite Pant with the Varusteleka top and last resort is Kuiu Snowfall set and rob the pants.

It is. But, it stops all the bs of doubling puffies, multiple mid layers, etc. I guess people don’t actually sit and glass in 20° F and below for hours, regardless of what they say. Because 5-7oz of down isn’t cutting it. You freeze with what the industry offers.

This season with this puffy and the Vivo Tundra boots, was the first season ever that I was completely comfortable while glassing for hours in sub 20° F weather- without shivering, rubbing my hands, getting up and moving, etc.
No more base layer, plus two mid layers, plus two Grumman’s (or a Grumman and a First Lite Chamberlin), and a rain jacket for wind; just put this over what’s worn while hiking, sit down. Done.

30’ish degrees, 30+ MPH sustained winds. Partner had (IIRC) T shirt, LS base layer, thick mid layer, Grumman, rain jacket- same for legs. He froze. I fell sleep.

Any chance the puffy will come in blaze orange? Working a vest over a bulky jacket while up a tree and then adding a hat over the hood is a PIA.

The jacket past the ultimate cold weather test..Tanya!

If you haven’t tried them, check out feathered friends. I use the volant pants and jacket for my late season hunts. Box baffle with 11oz of 900 fill in the jacket (26.7oz)and 5.6 in the pants(19.2) Spendy, but super nice when glassing.

It coming in blaze will for sure seal the deal for me. I hate how many good hunting cloths dont.

14oz down, made specifically to go over an exposed bino harness, anorak, 24’ish oz total weight. The first legit “lightweight” puff jacket that is actually warm enough for true cold weather hunting that I’ve used.
Apologies if this is a naive question, or if I'm misreading Form's post. I can see why you'd want the puffy (insulation layer) to go over your bino harness, but would wouldn't the anorak be on top of the insulation layer for wind/precip protection?

This new puff jacket is an anorak (pullover style). That allows it to be warmer, have a full pass through hand pocket, and have a design that allows it to got over a bino harness while leaving the binos exposed.

So I assume it’s got a zip flap or similar to get to the Binos?
