My gear/pack layout from base layers to binos

every third ad for me on facebook is for hollo socks, which are alpaca wool. anybody tried those yet?

I have some that I've worn over the last few months. They looked kind of rough from the start but haven't had any functional issues as far as holes or anything go and I've otherwise liked them. I have a hard time telling a massive performance difference between them, my merino socks of various brands, and other alpaca socks that I have. People that are in the field more than I am might be able to give better feedback.

I also have some and pretty much agree with all of this, especially looking rough when brand new (lots of fuzzies on the outside). I do think they wick sweat a little better than merino but that could all be in my head.

I have worn hollow everyday for the past year and a half. They are finally starting to wear holes in the bottom of the heel. I wear them at work, the gym, out and about. Overall they have been great for a consumable item.

My feat are less sweaty than my previous darn tough socks. I layer with liner socks when out and about on multi day hikes/hunts. But they don’t last as long and I can’t send them back for a warranty. I may try Altera next - which do have a lifetime warranty and are made in the USA alpaca.

Same here. It keeps tempting me, but I can't help to be skeptical of products that spend so much money on marketing. Would like to see other's first hand accounts rather than their ads.

Can someone quantify the PITA/reward on yak/camel/alpaca vs the darn toughs I have worn for over a decade? Want to understand if this is really worth the added headache and expense since there doesn’t seem to be an easy button consensus yet.

Couldn't remember the quarter zip, so against my better judgment... I went to look at it. Ah yes, I remember something about this one. I remember thinking how it would be nice to have because of the neck of the regular Ranger, while fine, might be better with a zip. But thankfully I can't get it because it only comes in two colors. And I have both of those colors in other Ranger options.

Whatever you do, don't look at the Ranger Cardigan.
