That is really impressive for a first go at it. You included a lot of features that amany experienced DIYers fear, and executed it well.
Be warned though, once you find out that you don't have to settle on what is available on the market you have a long and unsatisfied path of constant tinkering ahead of you I probably end up making a new pack every 6 months or so.
NICE! That IS alot of bar tacking, you have patience!
I hunt with an X2 and haul with an ILBE (I have two one full in great condition if I need all the frills and one with just the main body and a lot cut off it for bare bones hauling) but this type of tread makes me keep ideas in mind...
Yea that option is pretty clutch. I have actually pretty much destroyed that machine though. It all started when the needle position was suddenly off center when on a straight stitch setting. I spent a lot of time trying to correct it. These old machines do all kinds of crazy stuff when old oil gums up. I ended up bending something to get the needle in center. Then i knocked it off my desk one day and it has never been the same. However, someone just gave me an old janome machine that sews even better, believe it or not. It doesn't do as well with heavy thread though. And then today i picked up an old montgomery ward machine for $15 at a community garage sale. Just like all of them, it needed some love. It took me about an hour to get everything running smooth again. It did not have a pedal so i cobbled one together from a machine i no longer use. Yes....i have a sewing problem. That MW machine is a beast. Im quite impressed with it so far.
There is Viking for sale here local, and it looks like brand new, but they want $150 for it. Parts are no more, and I read a bunch of stuff online about some of the plastic parts swelling or cracking with age. Not worth the risk, although I would love to have it. My other machines are like new, and from the 50's and 60's. No plastic in any of them, so they should last the rest of my life.
I wont pay more than $50 for an old household machine. There is just no need to pay more with as many of them as there are out there. People throw them away or give them to goodwill all the time.
I am sewing enough now that i may actually buy a couple of new pro machines in thr near future. One for heavy and one for light material. Im pretty sure i can make my money back by using them.
I am planning to test 3 passes vs. a Bar Tack. My Consew doesn't have reverse and I will have to turn it each time, but I am not planning to do full coverage PALS. I can use my old Brother to do the Tack if I have to.
