I bought a box of lapua brass. Guess I'll buy a 284 barrel someday. I already have 500 180eldm bullets.

The .284 Winchester cartridge has experienced a recent resurgence in F-Class competition, where shooters compete to distances out to 1,000 m/yd. Members of the US Rifle Team, which Lapua sponsors, will enjoy having cases readily available in this classic cartridge. The .284 Winchester’s rebated...www.grafs.com
Can't see the stock well, but I'm curious on the details.284 win on a Tikka is about as perfect as it gets.. 162 eldms, h4350 and lapua brass. My pard and I have stacked some critters the last couple of years with ours.

What velocities are you getting with your 162gr load?284 win on a Tikka is about as perfect as it gets.. 162 eldms, h4350 and lapua brass. My pard and I have stacked some critters the last couple of years with ours.

Way faster than I care to admit! Fastest 284 I've seen any where online and I cant explain why. It was originally a 7/08 throated for 180 eldms and then rechambered to 284. Im running 55 grains of h4350 at 3005 fps with zero pressure signs. Obviously work up to that load. I belive its 1.5 grains over max. My buddies is more standard and a shorter barrel and I think he is at 2850What velocities are you getting with your 162gr load?
I currently have two 24” 284Wins, your velocities are on par with exactly what I’m getting. With H4350 and 6.5 Staball both of my rifles shoot the 162’s at 3000fps with very light pressure signs, just flat primersWay faster than I care to admit! I’m not sure if you played around with 180s at all but I’ve tested a few in one of my rifles and was pretty easy to hit 2800fps. With getting 180’s at 2800fps and 162’s at 3000fps I don’t see the point of a 7mm rem mag either. I love the 284Win.Another guy on here is getting 2925 with his.
Really I cant see a reason to use a 7 mag for an extra 100 fps and 15 more grains of powder. I will say those eldms are very splashing at close distances. I've shot a big mule deer and elk inside 100 yards through the neck and didn't get an exit on either. It essentially cut both of their heads off though and dropped in their tracks.

I think the H4350 burn rate is perfect. Also had great luck with 6.5 Staball and I know others are using RL17 with great successH4831 sc probably gets mentioned the most but I had a bunch of 4350 and its worked great in mine.

If you don’t want to do a 284Win then sell me your 284Win lapua brass! This thread has me leaning hard toward a 284 again. I shot a custom mauser in 284 for quite a few years, but it's pretty much retired now. I have a Remington 700 magnum action that I was maybe gonna turn into a 7 mag or 7 PRC. But I also have a Mod 70 long action with a standard bolt face I could turn into a 284. Plus I already have dies and 284 Lapua Brass.
