My 2024 Sheep Hunts

Alright, I'm not well known here, but I have had a stone sheep hunt booked for this year and also burned all my draw luck on the WY sheep super tag........ After killing my desert sheep in UT last year, I can not wait for September. My outfitter from last year hooked me up on both of my outfitters this year otherwise I wouldn't have had any clue where to start. Being from TX, I plan to drive to WY and also northern BC ( I aint leaving my sheep in BC)...... Im down over 40lbs from 2 years ago, and down 8lbs from my UT sheep hunt...... trying to get another 15lbs cut that will get me right at 200 and where I want to be. Ive been down the lightweight forum and have pretty much all the gear I need for both hunts, minus a good camera and a few small things...... I'll keep this thread going and post pics along the way. Good luck to all those that drew a tag this year!

Good for you! That’s an awesome year in the making. I’ve always enjoyed the prep and anticipation for sheep hunts nearly as much as the hunts themselves and you have 2x to anticipate.
I hope you kill two ancient rams and keep us all updated here so we can live vicariously through your hunts.

Ah my bad - did you pick a unit yet? I drew a sheep tag as a resident in Area 1 two years ago FWIW happy to provide info if you chose that zone.

No worries, have an outfitter hired, so whatever unit we go to! I think I have to hunt units with 8 or more tags per unit? I’d have to look at the tag.

Congratulations. In ‘92 I had a Dall hunt booked and drew a Wyoming bighorn tag too! Enjoy the process!

Took the WY rifle out to 860 yards today. Not that I’d shoot that far at a sheep or deer but this rifle shoots good! Getting 2847 fps 18” bbl.

So the GW rifle being 18”…… from what I’ve read I cannot take it into Canada as it’s a restricted firearm (under 18.5”) and you can’t hunt with a restricted firearm. So I have a proof 22” bbl 6.5 I’ll be taking across the border for stone sheep.

The way I read it is less than 18.5” is restricted
And it specifically says you can’t hunt with restricted firearms
Gunwerks thought it was fine but I’m not driving 3 days to have my rifle confiscated

If you don't mind could you share the page it says 18.5 inches? The RCMP 5589 form for non residents firearms Dec. form say under 18inches. I have a suppressed 308 that I cut to 18 inches. Obviously a supressor in canada is a no no but I was back and forth on bringing that or my 7 mag in for a newfie moose hunt this October. Ultimately I decided on the 7 just incase I would get an agent with a wild hair that said it was 17 &15/16ths.

I wish I would have known this before specifically buying a Gunwerks 18” rifle
Maybe I’ll run it with a can and use it in Wyoming since that’s where it came from
