Hello All -
I have a Woodman Arms Patriot on order as my first muzzleloader and will be mounting an optic. The land that I hunt doesn't have many shots over 200yds but would be interested in seeing what it can do at longer distances on the range. I'm interested in a mid-range optic (VX-3 or similar). I'd appreciate any options on brand/model, magnification, reticle, and other options that I should be considering when making my decision. Thanks All!

I think you'll like the Woodman. Picked one up earlier this year and while I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, it is a quality ML. I hunt in similar conditions and have been good with a Swarovski PH/Kahles Helia C 1.5-6x42 scope. Never felt I needed more magnification and the wide FOV at 1.5x is great. You may be able to find one used for a bit more than a VX3. Whatever you choose, you shouldn't need more than 8x on the high end but make sure you have a good FOV on the low end.

Have a couple illuminated reticles and the are helpful. But for some reason I haven’t needed the illumination at the time I’ve taken my deer.

I have a Nikon 3x9 BDC muzzleloader scope on my Remington UML that Ive been satisfied with. Its not a high dollar scope but suits my needs
