Muzzle Brake Design, top ports on ultralight build?

6.5 creed - Howa Superlite 20" Barreled Action - Stockys vg2 = Sub 6lb Scoped & loaded.

Given the build and barrel profile is so light. What should my considerations be when looking for a brake.

1. SRS Ti brake; is the tiny sufficient or should I go bigger to help absorb more recoil given its so light?

2. APA Answer with top ports. While heavier (2.2oz), the top ports may help better control muzzle rise, I am not sure how much downward pressure should be on that thin of a barrel.

I’m doing literally this same build, except I put a slightly heavier scope on so I’m a touch over 6lb. BUT - the 100% lightest brake is the MuzzleBrakesand More micro beast ti 1 piece, except it requires that you have a gunsmith time it, or use shims. 1.1 oz, angled ports to combat the muzzle rise.

I’m a little cheap, so I bought the Answer. Still waiting on my stock so I haven’t shot it yet though.

You should consider if you are shooting prone or not. Small brakes don't weigh that much even in steel.

I don't know how sensitive you are to recoil and noise, but the extra noise may be more bothersome than the recoil. That being said, it's a 6.5 Creed, so most people will probably be handle the recoil.

I do shoot prone and just about everything else when hunting, depending on the situation. I never have tried spotting shots when hunting so I am not sure how much of a difference that makes or not.

I am sensitive to noise though.

Will do! I think I shied away from the pro tiny because I could only get it in 5/8-24, and the superlite is 1/2-28. But I’d guess they’d make ya a smaller version if you asked.

I’m in the same boat - I figured 1 oz would hurt less than the 2x cost of the others… I do think it looks way cleaner with a tapered/dia matched small dia brake.

Also, Nate at MBM will taper the brake to your barrel dia if you like. He’s a solid dude.

I have a sub 5lb scoped 6.5 CM that I’m thinking about putting a brake on. The recoil is snappy, but not bad - I’m more interested in controlling the muzzle rise. For that, the top ports seem to make sense, just interested in how they actually work out.

I haven't. My dad runs the PVA jetblast on 5.5lb .308, it works well but no where near being able to spot shots or muzzle rise is just OK.
