Great thread - I’ve been debating how many pins. I recently picked up a 3 pin BG ascent verdict but haven’t had a chance to use it much yet. Switching over from a 5 pin fixed sight I’ve used for year.

I’ve been thinking 30/40/50 for pin placement but I’m curious to see how that performs/where to hold for shots at 20 or less.

Has anyone here modified a BG sight by adding a 4th pin? Would that affect the bottom floater pin?
The only way to truly answer that question is to use your 30yd, start at 10 yds shooting the same spot and work back, looking at the arrow trajectory. Figure out if it'll work for you

I also use a 30, 40, 50, so on. The difference for me from 20-30yds was 1.75". Shot a lion last year at somewhere between 12-14 yds; held the 30 pin right where I wanted the arrow to go.

I had a BG 5 pin I just pulled a pin out of to make it a 4.

I used a 3 pin slider for about a year and really liked it! The open sight picture was nice! However, not having a 50 yard pin bothered me and went back to a 5 pin slider.

If money wasn’t an option I would have a bow set up for tree stand/turkey hunting with a 3 pin slider and a 4/5 pin slider for elk.

Good feedback - I’ll do the shot exercise and see how it shakes out. Thank yoy

I've added a 4th to a bg ascent with no issue. The red arrow on the slider is adjustable, when zeroed, just put the red arrow on the yardage of the pin you want to float, typically the bottom pin. doesn't matter if you have one pin or 7.
I went back to 3.

Very helpful, thank you!

Check for yourself and see but its probably 2" high at 20, that's what mine is.

depends a lot on arrow weight, I'm usually 4" or so between 20 and 30(~460 grains if I remember right) with V3X, I was more like 5" different with DXT.

I would say only some not a "lot." This is only @ 20 yards we are talking about. The other factors are also important. Peep height, sight height, IBO, how far in/out the sight is etc...

It seems weird you have 200-300% more elevation change than @2Stamp and I. Maybe its worth testing again?
