I see on their website, they have sold a few of these already, currently sold out, and they’re producing more. Has anyone been able to drop and action into one of these lightweights and try them. All I’ve seen is Avery fondling one at shot show so far.

On the fence for a stock on a current lightweight build, and would consider one of these. I’m curious how they feel and shoot compared to the other lightweight chassis. Thanks

I handled one at an expo. Did not get to mount it. The one I handled seems to be an “all compromises” way to mount a barreled action with a folding stock at the absolute minimum weight. It flexed lot. It seemed like it would not be solid for shooting compared to a real stock. Notably less solid imo compared to HNT26. I am convinced I’d shoot worse with it compared to really anything.

With that said, paired with a 223/6 ARC to maybe a 22 / 6 Creed, it would be the lightest way I know of to take an effective long range rifle to go sheep hunting, etc.

Hopefully the link works. They just put out a better breakdown of their chassis for those interested

Got it set up last night. Comparison to the stock Springfield Waypoint 2020 carbon stock. I got the 15in LOP option since I’m 6’5”, compared to the 13.5” stock Waypoint.
Between the stock change and Airlock suppressor addition instead of my old one I’ve dropped more than a pound off the completed rifle. 7.8lb full up except ammo and that’s with the waypoint 20” SS barrel, a 16in carbon would be crazy light.
Hoping to use it this weekend at @Bluumoon 's Mountain Rifle Challege if I can source some MDT aics mags. It does not fit the Magpul pmag or the Hawkins Hunter mag.
The folder is really sweet. There is a little play in the buttstock when it is in the “folded” setting, but when it’s locked into straight/open it’s quite rigid.
Balance point for the tripod with my longer barrel is slightly forward of the rear most position on the arca rail. Currently using Spartan products since I don’t yet feel like buying another tripod head or bipod.
We’ll see how it shoots this week.

Looks good! Let us know on the mag. I thought I read it takes hawkins hunter mags, I'm a little sad that it doesn't. Was your hunter mag the XLR for the XLR chassis by any chance? This is from their site.

  • Magazine: Short Action AICS (Hawkins XLR isnt compatable)

This is the one I have:

Hawkins Precision - Hunter Detachable Magazine - Short Action

I emailed Matt with MTN Gear and he said they really designed it around MDT mags because they liked them best, and he was sure the Hawkins wouldn't work. He was less sure the Magpul Pmag wouldn't work, but I can say it does not. He recommended metal MDT mags.

Awesome thanks for the heads up. Did you weigh it before install and is there any flex in the forened?

I have not noticed flex, I'll wrench on it a bit more later. I only have a household scale but it was less than 1.4b.
He sends custom action screws and washers and says you might just need the screws, might need the washers, might need to actually trim the screws. I definitely had to use the washers not to have the screws block the bolt movement, but once those were in and torqued down the bolt runs smoothly and the screws are inset/flush.

Mine came in early. Very well built. My accurate mag works, Hawkins doesn’t with the mag well as built. I may mill some of the mag well front lower so I can run my lightweight mags, we’ll see how I feel after some use. Very well built though.

Curious how it handles recoil and shoots overall. It doesn’t look very ergonomic to me.

Agreed, I don’t think I’ll have issue spotting impacts on 6mm stuff and below but I won’t know for sure for a week or two.

Recoil pad is slightly above bore (~3/8”) and looks to be the slightest negative comb (like a degree). I don’t think it’ll be a whole lot worse than a lot of things on the market but the rear half isn’t going win over any of the RokStok crowd. As long as I can spot my impacts with my 6SST for me it will be great on hunts it’s folded on a pack 99% of the time. It’s lighter than my bedded Echelon Versa once you add bottom metal, but folds and incorporates full length Arca. I’m ok with the trade offs it causes to get there IF I can spot impacts still. Machining is crazy good. I really like that the entire front is one piece of Ti and no connections exist in front of the mag well. Also excited to see his future adjustable butsock models that will release in the future.
