So what is such the big deal with using this mtn ops stuff . How is it so beneficial. I even think I've read on one of these threads that some ppl even take it with THEM on the backpacking trips.

No actually benefit or gain using it out in the field

I do not use Mnt Ops, I do use a different supplement company and I would have to disagree with you. There are benefits to taking supplements to help the body stay hydrated, focused and help with recovery. Major athletes use supplements for these reason, so it does have health benefits that can help out in the field. I use a rehydrate packet and and Spark ( energy and focus) supplement every morning and evening in the back country and keeps me going all day long when my buddies are back at camp or taking a nap. It comes in powder form, so it weighs next to nothing to pack, so why not. I would say try it, and you won't go into the mountains with out it next time.

I take Yeti, Enduro and Blaze every day. Blaze is not much different than other thermogenics I have taken in the past. It will give you a little energy boost and metabolism boost. I have replaced my morning energy drink with Yeti, but for people less immune to caffeine it may be a little too much for them but I have drank too many energy drinks and they hardly have an effect on me anymore. I gave my buddy some Yeti when we were hiking up Quandary and as just a coffee drinker it had him full of energy and he was ready to run up the mountain. Enduro sort of has the opposite effect in that it lowers your heart rate when performing high exertion activities (like hiking) by dilating (opening up) your blood vessels.

There were threads this winter that Rokslide did where members that had no experience with the products were given a package and asked to try it giving real-time feedback over a week or so. This was done for Yeti, Phoenix and Enduro (I participated in the Enduro). I suggest searching for them and giving them a read as you will get impartial reviews from several different people. I too was actually turned off by the hype and the strong marketing at first and yes there are plenty of other supplement companies that provide similar products for cheeper, but I would rather support a hunting oriented company whom I trust more than some company I've never heard of.

Lots and lots and lots of marketing.

Everyone has their thing though.

I just hydrate with Nuun to keep fluids balanced and prevent cramps. Super pack able and portable... pre-measured... simple.

As for energy drinks, protein bars, and pre-workouts? That stuff is absolutely not necessary in the field. Just personal preference for those who choose to fuel that way.

you need to get out once in while!

I've not used Mt Ops but have used Wilderness Athlete on hunts. There are benfits

They are everywhere on social media. The reasoning for this is the way they market which is actually quite ingenious. This is deduced and I don't know from first hand experience that this is how it works, but I'm pretty sure that it's right. They give anyone with any influence (like a podcast or website like this one) a 20% off coupon code and if someone uses their code then they get a kickback for that order. This is why I will rotate through the codes for the things that I like to support: Rokslide (ROK20), Gritty Bowmen(GRITTY), Alpha Bowhunting(ALPHA), etc. It's kinda like a commission based system for advertising. Therefore they get a ton of advertising because of this as it's in that person's best interest for you to use their code when purchasing. The problem with this is that there are a lot of us that can smell commission based sales from a mile away and it's a major turnoff, which is why most retailers have gone away from it and that places like Carmax are doing so well. IMO I think that this advertising model was the major reason for their quick growth, but they are losing a lot of perspective customers because of it as well.

Ah, that makes sense, I hadn't really thought about it, but man they are advertised very aggressively by some annoying jabroneys. I was wondering why they garnered so much influence so quickly across a wide spectrum of hunting personalities.

Regardless, I did the Rokslide Yeti test for which they provided a tub. It was nice, the stuff had some serious kick at first, but I noticed the boost less the longer I took it. When I ran out, I was on the fence about buying another tub, but have not yet and probably won't because: I didn't feel like I needed it, I'm not sure that stuff is so good for long-term health, and it's a really expensive habit and I have enough of those already.

As with any pre workout you need to cycle on and off to keep the effects. That's just from building up a caffeine tolerance. I'm one that is definitely packing in some Enduro on my backpack hunt. I've seen the benefits first hand during hardcore workouts. MTN OPS is blowing up! In part because of their marketing and simply because Jordan and Casey are good dudes. I've introduced quite a few people to Enduro that don't even workout, but they just love how they feel when they take it. My wife calls it my happy juice!

I would say that Mountain Ops has been successful in the marketing aspect of taking supplements, adding a twist to them and producing them for the outdoors not so much the gym.

I personally use MTN OPS Yeti when I wake up in the morning when I am scouting and hunting. It wakes me up and gives me a boost of energy to hike. I am not a morning person at all so this really helps. Do you need it to be successful? Hell no, but if you see a benefit from it, use it.

Yeti is a pre workout with 200mg of caffeine. Basically a sweetened energy drink with NO boosting properties.

NO dilates blood vessels and gives the user a "muscle pump". The idea being you can deliver more oxygen to the muscles...

It's body builder stuff that doesn't make much sense to me for hunting/outdoor use. But as stated above... With enough marketing, guys are going to buy it and take it to wake up in the morning I guess.

I'd be interested to hear somebody actually defend it from a nutritional standpoint outside of "makes me feel good" and "helps me wake up".

Not that there's anything wrong with that... I just think a lot of guys but into the marketing and get a caffein buzz and a placebo effect.

Humans have been hunting and packing out heavy loads for a few thousand years without a pre-workout supplement.

But probably just because none of them were wearing cool hats with an expensive brand on them.

**Full disclosure**I have met Jordan and hunted with Casey. I get a slight discount on their products due to their relationship with Rokslide.**

Here are my honest thoughts. I have always been skeptical about the real benefits of supplements like MtnOps, and in the past have also thought negatively about them due to some of the clowns who promote them by wearing their gear and taking gym selfies everyday. Remember that they can't control everyone who uses their products.

Last January I met the brothers behind the brand in Vegas and found them to both be very down to earth and easy to talk to. I had a great time visiting with both of them all week at the Shot show. Fast forward a couple months to when Robby let a few of us know that MtnOps would like a couple Rokslide staff and a member to test out the products and post their thoughts. Well, Tony and I were both happy to give it a try and soon each of us had the "Elk Shape" package headed our way. I started using the products the same week that I headed to ID for a bear hunt with a few good friends. Casey joined us for that hunt and one of the days pyroducks and I had a chance to sit down with Casey and ask him about all things MtnOps. I won't begin to try and explain all the things Casey told us about the start of the company or the methods they use to research and develop their products. Hopefully Casey will see this and maybe give some insight in that area. I will say this though, I was very impressed with the story he told us and am a believer in what they are doing. I have continued to use the products throughout the summer and can honestly say they have helped me get into great shape for hunting season.

Humans also hunted with recurve bows for thousands of years. They also shot muzzleloaders for thousands of years. They wore moccasins for thousands of years. Do I need to continue?

There may not be a single nutritional value from it but it helps me wake up in the morning, which makes hiking a whole lot easier. No different than those that can't go without their coffee in the morning.

Marketing is a key to business in this day and age. If you don't have a good marketing team, your business is going to struggle. I haven't quite figured out why people bash companies for marketing. Sitka, KUIU, Kifaru,Danner, Kennetrek, etc. You know these brand names because of marketing.

Is there much benefit from the supplements for someone that is just starting to get into working out more? I know that I still have more "natural" potential to achieve. I do not really need just an energy drink to get going, more of things that would make cardio performance better and strength reached faster than just working out harder and more while eating healthy. Does it all have a high sugar content?

I get up when I need to and hunt my ass off because I love it. I don't need a supplement to go all day. Your buddies are not back at camp because they don't use a supplement. Some people want it and some want excuses.
