Our forefathers exterminated lions, wolves, and bears for a reason. The nature/disney lover has no clue and wants em back. Then their dogs cats kids and sometimes selves become food. They cant understand it - why cant we all just get along?

The fact that those folks didnt immediately remove the threat immediately speaks volumes. CPW says you cant defend your dog. Why would they listen? Cause they are all liverals and will rat eachother out if someone shot the threat. Special kind of stupid.

Anyone believing that wolves will be staying in the wilderness backcountry while all the food they eat is being fed by flower gardens and do-gooder backyard animal lovers living in the rural developments is using fairy tale logic, predators follow the food....its that simple and why the internet is full of videos of various predators looking in patio doors and killing stuff in peoples backyards....wolves are no exception to that behavior.

The mountain lion issue is going to be one that most states will see as the west turns into California. Another factor is that as many of the western states have chosen to cater more to their resident hound hunters by regulating how many nonresidents can hunt lions, you can already see that many of the common zones that were common haunts for nonresident houndsmen & used to close in a few days after a good snow event are now staying open most of the season, for a variety of reasons the hunters arent getting the job done like they once did. Colorado is still pretty non resident friendly for lions, but im guessing not for much longer, add land fragmentation and houndsmen are running out of territory, predator populations will increase and for some twisted reason it makes more sense to people to pay fish and game officers to kill lions than make money and simply let hunters do it......another example of what happens when you take hunting out of game management

It's a pretty simple answer. You were protecting your family when you killed the lion, the dog got in the way and was collateral damage.

You know.......IF pets were actually considered personal property, then people wouldn't get arrested for animal cruelty when they put their dog down themselves. I can destroy every piece of personal property I own without interference from law enforcement. But try that with a pet and see where that gets you. They are absolutely not considered personal property.

Wolves aren't going to hop fences in the suburbs. If you let your dogs run in the woods off-leash, sure you might lose one to a wolf some day. That's just the nature of things though and elicits no sympathy from me.

Outside of that, I don't see how wolves figure into a discussion about cougars doing cougar stuff. Am I missing something?

An argument could be made that wolves would push the deer and elk closer to human habitat, thereby increasing cougar/human interaction since cougars would follow the "food".

To your second point: Nobody that keeps their dogs in a fenced yard or on a leash should worry about wolves.

You think wolves can't jump a fence?. Humm...I guess they have bred out their ability to jump or have shorter legs now.

I do understand the depth that the wolf people will go to.

Sometimes it is better to simplify stuff than to argue every little nuance.

In the case of the town terrorized by mtn lions. Why couldn’t they band together and remove the problem? They can’t agree to kill the cat(s). Silly. So the dog owners are sol.

In the case of the wolf people, they are insulated from their decision. They hope to hear a howl every now and again cause it gives em shivers. The problems caused by the wolves will be other people’s problems. So no harm done.

We have the same crap down here with black bears in residential neighborhoods and the folks who kill the bears stalking their kids get arrested cause the neighbors report them. Stupid shit, ignorant people thinking we can all live in harmony if we just have a bear proof garbage can.

They come out in droves to protest the bear hunts and got them stopped. So we have even more bears in backyards when the kids are out playing. As long as its someone else’s problem, its okay.

Yeah, I don't care about livestock predation. They can sort that shit themselves, however they want, while getting paid a princely sum for NOT raising an animal to maturity.

And correct, I'm fairly indifferent to people losing dogs when they let them run loose in the woods. If your wimp dog can't handle nature, then keep it at home!

Getting back on topic:

My heart goes out to the folks that live in places where they can't LEGALLY protect their "property" from predators. It's pathetic, honestly, that people would vote for rules like that and that lawmakers would sign it.

With that said, if your dog/cat/parakeet is being attacked and you stand by and do nothing because you're thinking about legal consequences at that time....you really didn't deserve that pet in the first place. You gotta fight to keep what you have in this world.

The guys who have said "shoot, shovel, shut up" are correct in this case.
