Is there a link to the updated regs?
That's great he called you but just listening to Hank, my impression is he just has tunnel vision. His MO (and his commission - particularly Tabor, Cebull, Walsh) is more bull tags on private no matter how they try to sell it. And I expect them to try again next year.We are where we are because noone used to pay attention. Government has not changed. Just more information sources shedding light.
As for who championed what that's beyond me. What I do know is that in the last 2 years not only have I received more responses then ever. I've received phone calls from these government types and actually had real live conversation with them one on one. I'm a nobody.
I emailed Mr. Worsech directly. Within a few days he called me directly.
A director of anything calling a nobody Like me directly to discuss viewpoints. Tells me alot about the man's motives.
I get it, he's rocking the balance of things and people hate him. He has great big ideas. Everyone hates change. Especially change they don't agree with.
When this regulation stuff started. Hank asked several times for input from the public. He new his ideas wouldn't fly sorta speak. Atleast hank had a starting point. A series of ideas to grow from.
I dont believe he really gives 2 flying outhouses worth of you know what, who takes the credit.
He has been willing to listen, and adjust fire as needed. I'm sure there will be more adjusting to be done.
Atleast the Nan and the commission are willing to work with everyone who brings solution based ideas.
This stuff ain't gonna be perfect for all sides. So, everyone gonna have to grow up a bit and be willing to compromise some...or the whole deal will just end up completely privatized.
Montana my favorite place on earth. For me personally...I'll just keep on being a squeaky wheel. Letting these cats know when I think they are on track and when I think they are off. Both cases I'll have ideas for solutions and not just complaints.
I doubt it considering in places like NM they have separate odds for outfitter or not.The two points for outfitted non residents really chaps my ass.
I wonder if there is any legal cracks in that law… Seems like a violation of equal protection under the law, but I am far from a lawyer type.
It wasn't a new update that was done this past fall/summerI just read the updates on the link above in the elk section and did not see anything about Pref pts for NR
Did I miss it?
Via the legislative session last fall, not in season setting.I just read the updates on the link above in the elk section and did not see anything about Pref pts for NR

Got it, I figured that was a pipe dream.I doubt it considering in places like NM they have separate odds for outfitter or not.

I get it. Have my doubts about the sincerity. Trying to stay positive and give benefit of doubt. See what comes out tge wash. That's great he called you but just listening to Hank, my impression is he just has tunnel vision. I'm not fooled at all. Just trying to be positive and best foot forward. People come up with nonsense all the time and always have. I don't care what kind of caca poo poo they start with. Long as they are willing to adjust fire I can live with a poor start.Man, he's got you fooled. Elk management input and comments have been out there for a long time, he just pretended it didn't exist prior to causing a shit storm.
Worsech started with a proposed unlimited bull hunting on private and cutting public tags by 50% in eastern/central MT. After the commissioners told them to try again they somehow had another comprehensive package ready to go in less than 24 hours - a package that MOGA basically rubber stamped approval for (things that make you go hmmm). That package generally made the 900 bundle into either general tag hunts for archery or unlimited archery permits and increased rifle tags by 50%.
Worsech went on Newberg's podcast and stated how it's his and the agency's job to "provide the science" to the commissioners and let them make the decisions. He did the opposite. He put a pile of shit on the commissioners laps that had not a thing to do with science or biologist recommendations and let them figure that out on their own. Not only that, he tried to call out commissioners going against his recommendations only to have a commissioner retort that he actually discussed things with the biologist and felt the changes were supported with science and then felt it appropriate to ask Worsech to not throw the biologist under the bus for doing their job. It's a miracle 6 Gianforte appointed commissioners rained in that bullshit as well as they did.
Worsech has mentioned multiple times he needs to work on regaining trust, yet he further proves he cant be trusted with seemingly every action or every time he opens his mouth.
Sad. This is happening everywhere. All about the money. The original proposals were thoroughly tamped down (or eliminated) due to the efforts of a lot of sportsman that were willing to speak up. Hank had nothing to do with championing the current adopted regulations, just the opposite.
Gone are the days when you didn't have to pay close attention to regulation changes as they tended to be minor and most often were advantageous to sportsmen, not hurtful.
Vigilance is going to be required both on regulation changes and legislation introduced every other year. Too many folks who want to take away our opportunities for their personal gain. Sad, but true.

Of course it would be nice in a rainbow and skittles world to not start there. But hey...what it is.
Maybe it's all a plot of some kind, who knows. Government been messed up since before I come along, probably be messed up long after I'm gone.
If I can find a bit of positive in all the poo poo. I'm going to try
I believe and agree you are right about the commissioners stuff. Hopefully us nobodies are loud enough to thwart some of the backlash, and the others see the error of thier ways.I could learn from your optimism but not going to give Worsech a pass in the name of it. I guess the main point is that Worsech deserves the opposite of credit for his actions and certain commissioners (Byorth, Walsh, Lane, Robinson, Waller) deserve credit for minimizing the stench of the turd Worsech dumped on them. Lord knows they are going to get it from the governor's cronies who are pissed they thwarted Worsech's plan to allow them to buy their way to the front of the bull tag line.
