MSR Dromedary water bags

I finally got my hands on the Dromedary bag after doing some research on them. Earlier this year we had a puncture in one of the water bladders and when you're about to pack in and realize you're down one bladder that you'd need for your trip, it kinda makes you cringe. I dig the idea of the abrasion resistant material and ability to handle it all from boiling and freezing, so I bought one to try. Anybody else have any experience with these bladders? Any do's and don't tips?

i use the 6l for two day hunts. When I’m not sure about water sources in the mtns. I don’t like the hose kit. hasn’t broke yet. I just really baby it in the pack. The 90deg fitting From bag to hose seems like the weak link.

I have a 6L dromedary- and have beat it up pretty good with no issues. I'd imagine the plastic caps would crack before the bag would leak.

I have used them for years. Still have my 20 year old version although I swapped to a newer one for BPA reduction. The cap / hose design isn’t my favorite design but I haven’t had one fail, although I rarely use mine as a bladder.

I think source and platypus make adaptors that would fit the mouth of the Dromedary if you wanted to upgrade.

Very durable, I also use some 20 year old ones as well. I've had no problem with freezing them or putting hot water in them. A hot one will sometimes go in my sleeping bag. I have used them as a pillow (but prefer actual pillows) and as a shower by hanging them in a tree.

My MSR filter also screws onto the bag for easy filling in the field.

I have the lite version, been pretty durable for several years. Wish it didn't leave a soapy taste in the water ...but its light and works

I have a 10L that seems durable, but I’ve only used it a handful of times so far.

I have several. Their spigot caps leak, but a standard nalgene cap is a watertight replacement. Remember that when it starts leaking. Otherwise they are bulletproof.

Like mine plenty but had trouble with the mini works filter when it was band new (one that hooks up to the big bag). Buddy had a backup so no sweat, but wished I would’ve been a little more diligent and tested the setup before heading out.

I've been using a 4L and 10L for three years now. The 4L is my pack bladder, and the 10L is my storage bladder. Zero problems with them at all. I'm also not a big fan of the hose adapter, but I haven't had an actual issue with it yet.

Curious how you guys are cleaning them? I've had a 10L for over 10 years now. Not sure what nasty stuff may be in there without seeing through the cordura lol

i use boiling water and 2 denture cleaning tabs and let it sit overnight then dry with a whisk in the inside. been doing it like that for 10 years or so now with the same bladder.

I only put water in mine. Clean in a sink, usually with a bottle brush. Hang to dry with it expanded as much as I can or on a long wooden spoon, etc.

Had mine for about ten years now and it's still working fine. I clean it out with a mild bleach solution and dry it out by hanging it on a broom handle. It takes a few days to fully dry out before I roll it up for storage.
