Moving from CO to Austin, TX

Yep. It’s 55°F in CO today. Will be 90° in Austin.

I was stationed in San Antonio for 2 years and the humidity can be a killer in the summer. It would be almost 100 and start raining, felt like a steam bath.

I experienced mid 90’s in mid November in Austin. And then by April/May it’s disgustingly hot already. It wears on you when you don’t want to go outside for half the year.

Hey, I haven’t relocated yet (probably should’ve updated the thread). I have been traveling one week a month down to Austin as part of a temporary delay in the relocation. Unless I change jobs it looks like we will probably be down in Austin in the next 3-6 months. Boy I was not ready for the heat though. I’m originally from the south and it’s still such an ass kicker down in TX.

Yeah, if the sun's out it's hot no matter what time of year lol.

Hey y’all, got laid off in February and landed a really good job but unfortunately they are making me relocate to Austin, TX from Colorado. Hoping to stay for a few years and move back out west again. My family and I are looking to move to the north and or west Austin suburbs to stay out of the city.

For those who have spent time in or around Austin, would love to hear your thoughts on the area and recommendations on things to do. Looking to golf, fish, spend time on the water, and hunt to pass the time while we are down there for a few years.

If anyone has tips on finding a hunting lease that would probably be my top priority. Feel free to DM me if you don’t want to post something publicly.

Not to rez a dead post, but I grew up in Lampasas (an hour NW of Austin) and moved back a few years ago. I got into hunting recently as an adult, but I don't fish.

If you want to hunt cheaper locally, the main way to go is to put in for the Parks and Wildlife Drawn Hunts. That'll get you in the game pretty cheap, but obviously it's not guaranteed. It's hard to find decent leases where I live now for working-man wages. I've had my eye on a few locally, and one up at Caprock Canyons. The main things with the drawn hunts is quite a few of them are very remote, and the climate can be very harsh from extreme heat to extreme cold. Fort Hood also allows public hunting for certain things, and they have their own process of obtaining access.

I have a lease now out in Crockett County, which is about 4 hours west of where I live, and it's affordable for what I earn, and it's low fence.

No worries about bumping the thread. I meant to post an update, but now I am no longer moving to Austin due to another job change.
