Mountain Hunting Should Be Hard

If you're planning on getting horses when you're old you might want to start getting experience now. I'd love to take my parents or in laws on my horses but couldn't imagine them controlling them in a hectic situation or getting off in a hurry since they aren't horse people. Love how everybody thinks hunting off horses is just typical dude horse stereotype. Look at the horse adventures thread on the Backcountry stock forum for some good examples.
I’m way too lazy to use horses.

Some of those mountains in the east can be pretty damn rugged.
Half running, half tumbling down a ridge while busting through “thickets” of mountain laurel and rhododendron trying to “ketch” a pack of Plott “bair dawgs” that are “barkin’ treed.”

This almost out-of-control downhill event is known colloquially as “ballhootin’ it.”

Why do you even reply to the post with no meaningful thoughts other than just to be crabby and pissed? What a dick move. Seriously what good did your negative bs do? The OP did not have a bad attitude nor was disrespectful and you come and dump all over the thread and create drama…wow you must be a real treat to be around
You're digging deep to get those 10 posts so you can sell stuff in the classifieds huh? Welcome to rokslide!

👆 It’s great to see us all sharing big plates of weird tasteless goo covered in gobs of assumption gravy.

They are and they aren’t.

I “growed up” in Buncombe and Haywood Counties. Folks are all from the Nantahala region. The Southern Appalachians, while not high by western standards, are rough going in places and were a good training ground for the Rockies.

The big things I had to learn when I came to Wyoming from NC 30 years ago was to get comfortable with altitude, greater distances covered in a days hunt, and dealing with downed animals that were WAY bigger than the biggest Whitetail I’d ever seen.
You are correct in everything you pointed out. I live in Ashe Co, where the mountains can get steep and the vegetation is thick!! But, I can usually get my truck/4-wheeler within a mile of my stand. I’ll second the larger game too!

Bingo.

High time for spring turkey and bear seasons to get here.
Yeah man, I'll freely admit I need to get out in the mountains and try to shoot something....heading in next weekend for turkey and bear opener.

Gonna be driving around FS roads in my SXS and cruising logging roads on my EBIKE so I know I'm not doing it the correct way though...darn it all! Won't be able to tell stories about how tough I am!

You can't be a "ELITE mountain hunter" with that attitude.

Oh my, there’s got to be a marketing angle in there somewhere. “Elite Mountain Hunter”. Maybe some morale patches that can only be purchased above 10,000’. I’ll get to sewing. Send me $25 for grid coordinates.

Oh yeah....one of the vents on my SxS is broken and I can't close it so it sometimes gets a little TOO warm when I have the heat on...it's just plain uncomfortable. Also, sometimes the Bluetooth randomly drops so I have to restart my audio book.

I guess that does make me pretty tough now that I think about it.
