What does it make you ?

A "Mathews mountain hunter"

Maybe it should be Tikka mountain hunter. I thought that and an swfa was the easy button.
Mathews-- hell your not even considered a bow hunter if you don't make your own bow and then knap your broadheads in the parking lot before climbing the mountain.

Mountain hunting "can" be hard, but that doesn't mean it "has" to be hard. I've had some really tough hunts, and I've had some really easy hunts. I had a boss years ago that was one of the hardest working guys I've ever known. But he never really made much progress. You can hunt harder, but you can also hunt smarter. Hunt hard and smart and you're well ahead of the masses. Quite frankly, for me.......hiking up and down mountains for days on end is the easy part.

Man. You guys have just inspired me to invent a whole new, never heard of business model based on this. I’ll hand make morale patches (out of DCF of course). I’ll make a whole boatload (a human powered boat, of course). The regular ones will say “elite mountain hunter”. The special ones will say “extra elite mountain hunter”, these will only be available to staff members, moderators and anyone else I deem to be “extra elite”.

The business model will be shaped like a mountain, naturally I’ll be on top. Anyone can buy a portion of the boat load. They can sell them or, better yet, get others to sell them and I’ll take a portion of the proceeds. My cut will only be used to buy American made elite titanium, carbon fiber and DCF products. I’d need to think of a logo of some sort, something that shows everyone how elite we really are. Maybe some sort of three sided polygon. There I’d be, right at the top. Only problem, “three sided polygon” doesn’t have a good ring to it. Maybe there is some kind of historical building I could borrow the name of. I’ll think on that.

Mathews and Tikka may want to get involved in this.

These days I hunt smarter not harder.
Also, not extra elite material. Why can’t you people understand, if you want the patch you need to emulate me. Sheesh. Guess I might need to start my own forum. Or maybe a cult.

What I like about backpack hunting is that no matter what, if you connect, there's some respect to that. Anyone who's ever did it knows... that even on those "gimme" opportunities that every-once-in-awhile life throws your way... you STILL had to put in work even for that.

I like how I can look at photos someone else took of the habitat they traversed... and from my experiences I can tell if they deserve a Golf Clap or not for traversing some unusually difficult looking terrain.

And most of all? I like how the "normies" look at you with surprised eyes when you explain hiking in alone and sleeping out there by yourself. And I also like knowing the difference inside, of how I used to feel about doing that when I was more n00b (The nervousness and apprehension as a middle-aged adult taking up this new, high-risk past-time), compared to now.

There’s some saying about how your most memorable moments and stories are usually from those situations where you were saying “f&$@ this” in the moment.
^^^ TRUTH!!! That's almost EXACTLY what happened on the night just before I got my 1st deer!

I thought he was talking about my wife. She says something along those lines… I think it’s more like “you act mental 90% of the time, the rest you are just stupid”.
