Not sure what made me take the shot. Never have I shot an animal in the as$s before. Something just made me do it. I think because the day before I had sheep in my scope, and after about 10 seconds they spotted me from 300 yards away, and spooked off.

This was day 2, we came in from the ridge. They were in the valley. He was facing the other way, but some of the herd was facing my way. I knew I had about 5 seconds to shoot before they spotted me at the ridge. Some of the herd started looking up towards us.

I caught his horns in my scope, he was definitely the largest of the herd. and I had 1 shot, and 1 shot only. I knew I had about 5 seconds to get it done. .270 ELD-X into the rump, traveled into the boiler room. Literally blew out his guts with a big massive hole in the side.

Would I do it again. Absolutely 100% !!

Reminds me of a fateful day in MT antelope hunting with my dad. He made a less than perfect shot on one and it started running a bit odd. Then in my binos, I could see half of his guts hanging out, swinging between his legs. Then he tried to jump a barbed wire fence. I witnessed the whole ordeal.

That’s a hell of a hole it put in it. The Texas heart shot is real deadly, maybe not ideal but it does work. I killed a blacktail buck with my bow, he was at 20 yards and just before I released he spun and my arrow buried to the fletching just an inch to the right of his hole, that was the gnarliest blood trail I’ve seen and he was dead in 30 seconds.

Good job on the mouflon!

It's a perfect shoulder mount. Any plans of a full body mount went out the window with his guts.. It's a Spanish Mouflon. About 3 hours west of Madrid. We did eat the backstraps & filets while in Spain. The 4 quarters stayed with the locals. That shot was about 180-190 yards. I am also impressed with the .270 ELD-X. I heard good & bad things about the .270, but no doubt, it works well.
