Mostly for backpack hunters, got rain gear you really like?

I have owned a few different rain gear suits and never found one that I really liked. Some were too noisy, most leaked or I sweated so much it was if they had leaked. If you pack something you really like, tell us about it please.

Kings XKG Paramount has been my my go to. Pair it with whatever gaiter of your choice.

Kuiu Yukon has been excellent for me. I would buy it again.

Sitka dewpoint jacket and a tarp are always in my pack. Rarely ever carry rain pants.

Stone Glacier M5 gear is top notch. Nice and light weight and fairly breathable when dry. Of course with any good waterproof breathable material, as soon as it gets soaked on the outside it will no longer be able to breath from within.

I have the sitka dewpoint and like it for it being light weight, but if you are in constant hard rain, it won't perform as well as some of Sitka's more durable rain gear like the stormfront. Stormfront you can wear on the Bering Sea and not get wet, but its heavier in a pack. I took the Dewpoint on what turned out to be a 27 day hunt in Northern Britsh Columbia. It got beaten up pretty bad constantly moving through the willows but it performed as well as any super light weight rain gear. The lighter the rain gear, usually that means that if you are soaked the clothes on the inside will in some areas be a little moist, but not wet.

The Kuiu Katana set has never let me down. I'll take a bit of a hit on raingear as far as weight and bulk to ensure that it's going to be functional. Same with my bedding.

My favorite rain jacket is probably the Outdoor Research Foray II, but I'm using a Sitka Dewpoint so far this year. I have also used a Warbonnet Stash jacket a fair amount, but I sweat way too much under that thing.

Kuiu Kutana is a good compromise. I've had and have lighter rain jackets such as Kuiu Chucach and the Black Diamond Stormline. Those are good options for for lighter weight rain jackets just in case it rains or for day trips. But, if I'm expecting to deal with rain, particularly heavier rain, or I'm going to be out in rain for multiple days, I prefer a 3 layer jacket.

I love mine too. It's quiet enough, stretches enough and breathes enough. Also, you can find it on sale often so it's a great value. I think it balances weight well.

That said - If I was doing some serious backpacking, like AK, I'd probably go heavier duty. I haven't had any problems.

I have the Sitka dewpoint jacket and pants and have 0 complaints! They saved my butt during a number of thunderstorms and a snow storm this year in CO.

Just got back from my season and had rain for a couple of days. I used a Sitka dew point on top, but since the rain was heavy I was hunkered down under some pine trees, I was still getting my pants wet. I used cheap rain pants I bought on amazon, these were surprisingly awesome. They fit right over everything, kept me dry and I could get on my knees in the wet muddy conditions to setup my camp and not get my pants soaked. They were also great for walking through wet brush. If I didn't have the Sitka dew point I'd try the jacket from this brand.

With the Sitka dewpoint is everyone sizing up a size or two in the jacket?

I'm wearing a Large in the jacket which is my normal size—they're cut pretty loose for layering. If you're borderline on sizes, go up one, but doubt you would need two sizes up.

Pants are a Large, which probably is a size up (33" waist)

I typically wear XL in jackets but got XXL. It's a little big but it fits well over my puffy if needed and zips up over my chest rig or bino harness. I have a 36 waist and opted for XL pants.
