Having some trouble finding much info on this gear. As a hunter that predominantly hunts my home state of Idaho, mostly high desert country, I don’t often need rain gear. But I would like something in my pack or available for the times I do need it. I was able to get a pretty good deal on Northridge recently with a sale and am curious if this will be a good fit for me. Although I don’t need it often I would just as soon spend my money on something that will be functional over getting something that is subpar. Just curious if anyone out there has put this thru the paces and can provide some feedback. Thanks.

Have a set of Kryptek Poseidon that I got on CamoFire years ago for a similar situation: rare rain events for hunting in AZ, Mexico and elsewhere when wet weather won't kill me.

If I were to do it again, I'd just buy Frogg Togg UltraLite2 top and bottom. It is the same weight class as the Northridge but $30 instead of $470 (you already have it at a sale price).

Appreciate the response and it’s not like I can’t return this - I just received it and paid basically half price. Looking at the stuff you referenced, I think I can see what you’re saying. It certainly doesn’t appear to be as functionally designed but may have similar performance overall? Love to hear more feedback.

I just picked Frogg Toggs up on Amazon for $19. Even if they work once and fall apart. It’s worth it.

I have the Katana set but I've never been upset pulling it out and throwing it on in the rain. I'll happily spend the extra on it and have more confidence knowing I'll stay dry. I use it fishing as well.

But you use it more than once in a proverbial blue moon.

Take the money you spent on the Kutana rain set. Take that amount and divide it by 4 total uses, with each use lasting 15-60 minutes, over 9 years. That is where I am at with my Poseidon set.

For how little it gets used, the cost just isn't justified especially since my life isn't on the line. For other types of hunts I have Yukon/Kutana (ex: Kodiak) as well as a Chugach set (ex: fly-in).

Yes I believe I understand where you are coming from. I was hoping to get a mid grade type set that is fairly light and packable and get life out of it. I think I will get a bit more use out of it than what you are mentioning. I hunt mid-late seasons quite a lot where I could see myself using in wet rain/snow conditions not to mention to cut wind at times. Not sure if that changes things or not. I like hearing other perspectives and would love to hear from someone that has specifically used this rain gear and how it has worked or not worked for them.

That was my philosophy for a long time. Ive had so much shitty rain gear that I was happy to spend more money on not becoming soaked. I use it quite a bit more often than that and I hardly ever wonder if it's going to work. To me, that's worth the expense.

I was in the same exact situation as you. I hunt in an arid part of CO where we rarely have to deal with rain. I was hunting with my buddy last year during archery season and one afternoon the bottom dropped out. He had some zip off rain pants and a good rain jacket and I had basically garbage. The temp dropped about 20 degrees and he was toasty warm and dry and I was cold and wet. This was only the 3rd time in 10 years that I got caught in a downpour but told myself that I will be ready in the future. I ended up buying the Kuiu Chugach pants and I just ordered the Northridge jacket with the last sale. It hasn't arrived yet but I'm hoping it will get the job done. It looks to be very lightweight and packable so it won't take up too much room in my pack.

I have the north ridge rain gear that just stays in my pack for when the rain pops up while I’m in the stand and it works great I don’t bust brush in so can’t speak to that
