Knob creek single barrel. Good lord. If you like drinking bourbon that feels like it evaporates the moment it hits your lips this is definitely for you. That stuff isn't good for anything but fire starter. All burn, terrible flavor.

I've been leaning harder into single barrel cask strength bourbons. The variation of different flavor profiles and proofs etc is what has been interesting. Most of the over rated sips for me have been the more generic blended and de-proofed drinks. But... I've also run into some single casks that weren't worth the price of admission.

From this thread, I’ve gathered most of you guys don’t have the pallet for anything buffalo trace distillery (buffalo trace, eagle rare, Blantons, EH Taylor, and Pappy).

I do agree that pappy isn’t worth what people pay for it second hand. EH Taylor small batch is probably my favorite BT product. Eagle Rare is hard to beat for the money.

I think Blantons is decent but not worth the secondary market price.

E.H.Taylor is one I like and buy.

Can't comment on the Pappys as I've never even seen one to buy here.

Blantons, decent but overall it’s just ok
Willet pot still, cool bottle but the juice is meh
High West, everything I’ve tried from them has been meh
Buffalo Trace is decent for the price but I don’t get the hype.
Still Austin, admittedly, I’ve only had the barrel strength but it didn’t wow me

For me, its about value for its use. I use high proof stuff to mix but I wouldn't normally drink it straight. Knob Creek, 4 Roses Single etc...Agree on the Buff Trace and add in on the high end, Van Winkle - for the price I was underwhelmed

Taylor Small Batch has been the most consistent to me. I’ve had different bottles of single barrel side by side and the perceived quality between them was huge.

I’ve had at least a taste of all the pappys. They’re good bourbon. They’re not worth mortgage payments.

Anyone tried “Very Old Barton” at $16 a bottle it beats the above mentioned bourbons, hands down.
I can't tell if this is a troll, or someone actually saying it's true.
I have had VOB and it's barely passable if you drink it neat.
Overrated: Russel Reserve, Wild Turkey Rare Breed, anything from Jack Daniels.
I do like most bottles out of the BT distillery. Whether they're worth what you pay is another story but I've not had to pay secondary pricing for them so I'm happy.
Eagle Rare 10yr is the bourbon that made me a bourbon drinker an I've never paid over $40 for it.

It's interesting to see everyone's palate differences. I've been fortunate enough to have several of the best bottles out there, there's definitely some I didn't like. I'm not a huge fan of most Russel products, young Knob creek releases are hard to drink, and most Rabbit Hole's aren't worth the money.

I tend to like 10yr+ aged bourbon or ryes that hit above 100 proof.

Buffalo trace is $18 mixing whiskey. I have no idea how it ever got so popular. It is not good neat.
When I was younger and worked at a liquor store we'd get it by the pallet and it'd take forever to move it.

I'm into angels envy right now.

The best bourbon I am willing to spring for. Of course it evaporates so fast, it is 120 proof. Knob Creek has become my favorite with the single barrel being the best of it. Woodford Reserve was very close but a bottle my wife bought a few weeks ago hasn't impressed me. Eagle Rare is another I like. There are so many different brands because different people have so many different preferences.

I don't know if it's considered top shelf although I've seen it there, but IMO High West Bourbon disappointed...a lot. Cool bottles though

KCSB is good diluted 1:1 with creek water or a handful of snow to bring it down to 60 proof.
The 120 proof cask strength whiskeys are super efficient when drinking out of a pack, and the knob is better than makers cask, bookers, bakers, or any other high proof I've had.
Drinking it straight is not ideal.
